ClamWin: Trouble getting "incremental" update of the daily

I'm having a problem updating and would like to see if it's a "just me" situation or if anyone else is having a problem.

Does anyone know what this means

Hint: The database directory must be writable for UID 0 or GID 0

My problem seems to be with getting the incremental update, it fails and so has to download the full daily.cvd instead of patching it to become daily.cld, which means dowloading 2 MBs as opposed to a few KBs, or 6 minutes as opposed to a few seconds on a modem.

This has happened to me 4 times.

I have my copy of CWP .095.3 in the same directory and it updates fine.
...\...\EmergencyStuff\ClamWinPortable95.3\
...\...\EmergencyStuff\ClamWinPortable\

Could it be that new CW does not like the length of the path? [see full path below]
If I move the New version to a different directory it works fine, but as I said the older version seems to have no problem with it's location.

Any help would be appreciated, as I am very confused

Here is the full update message:

Path Length and New ClamWin ?

Ok,

Here's what I tried
I moved the ClamWinPortable dir to:
C:\Documents and Settings\Tim\My Documents\Timp\Downloaded\HappyTown\ClamWinPortable

Still no joy, when I counted the length of the path AND the length of directory it, CWP, wanted to create AND the length of the file it wanted to create I got a number something like 261 characters.

Now I know that 256 is a magic number in Windows sometimes when it comes to paths, so I renamed ...\HappyTown\ to ...\H\ and tried the update again,

It WORKED !

So, it would SEEM that the new version of CW does not deal with very long directory structure [at least not in number of characters] as well as the older versions did.

This might have something to do with what John mentioned to me the other day, that CW .096.1 no longer deals with relative paths, so I guess it now uses absolute paths.

Bummer, not sure if there's anything that can be done about this.

Tim

Things have got to get better, they can't get worse, or can they?

there isnt much

there was an issue in the past with clamwin and upgrading when it was in a directory with spaces. i dont know how they fixed that but that has caused me some massive headaches with some of my recent tinkerings.
