Shockwave plugin help

Hey kids,

So I recently installed firefox portable to my Ironkey and I wanted to install shockwave, So I looked around and saw an instructions on how to do so.

I downloaded the latest shockwave player from the site, clicked run but it didn't let me choose where to install it, but it says on the instructions to install on X:/FirefoxPortable/Apps/firefox

So If anyone knows how I can solve this problem please tell me!

ThankYou,

this is how I do it

you need to find the NPSWF32.DLL file and the flashplayer.xpt files on your computer (I just do a search for the file and pick the most recent version if there is more than one) and copy them to the plugins folder in Firefox Portable (mine is at X:\PortableApps\FirefoxPortable\App\Firefox\plugins), and that's how I update my Firefox Portable for Shockwave & Flash (which when I check the version pages for Flash & Shockwave gives me the updated versions)

Hopefully that should work for you.

(although you probably should wait for someone else to comment and see if they agree with me :-p)

yes

This is what I did and it works just fine. Firefox shows as having the correct version, even when the computer has a different version.

Grantwhy: In your message,

Grantwhy:
In your message, you mentioned, "X:\PortableApps\FirefoxPortable\App\Firefox\plugins" in the Portable Firefox.
However, I could only find up to "X:\PortableApps\FirefoxPortable\App\Firefox\"!
I don't have a "plugins" folder.
BTW, I'm using PortableFirefox updated to 4.0.

The other folders found instead of "plugins" are "components", "defaults", "dictionaries", "extensions", "searchplugins" and "uninstall".
Any idea where should I put the flashplayer.xpt or NPSWF32.DLL after copying them?

What I'm trying to do with my Portable Firefox 4 is to ensure that it has some basic Flash plugin that would allow the Firefox browser to view FLV-embedded movies on webpages, etc as the schools I use this at may (or may not) have Flash installed in their PCs and it would be a BIG hassle to get their tech guys to install a lab of 40 PCs when they all don't have Flash installed! Thanks!

I don't have that either

I misread what he wrote. I copied them to ~\FirefoxPortable\Data\plugins.

Ignore ~ I use a different tree structure than other people. For most people that ~ reads as X:\Portableapps
