ebook reader

I'd like to be able to read my favourite ebooks from my usb stick on any computer. At the moment I can't do that as Mobipocket Reader has to be installed on a PC.
We can listen to our music from a memory stick, why not read a favourite book as well?
I'll be posting a similar request on the Mobipocket forum. I'd just like it packaged as a Portable App.

Hmm...

You'll have to ask them...
I think most people here prefer PDF format, with SumatraPDF Portable ;).

Insert original signature here with Greasemonkey Script.

Feedback from Mobipocket is that they've no plans to develop Mobireader as a Portable App. Pity.

Openberg Lector

If you use Firefox portable, you can install the openberg lector extension in Firefox that allows FF to open e-books. I have it, but haven't tried it, but it's worth a look.

Sledge hammer approach

Calibre will open the following format, if not more.
CBZ, CBR, CBC, CHM, EPUB, FB2, HTML, HTMLZ, LIT, LRF, ,MOBI, ODT, PDF, PRC, PDB, PML, RB, RTF, SNB, TCR, TXT, TXTZ

Calibre is more than just an Ebook reader, it includes:

  1. Library manager
  2. Ebook converter
  3. Syncing to device support
  4. EBook viewer
  5. Content Web server

I have the portable version on a thumb drive, but for someone that just wants to use it to view books it will probably seem a little over kill.

Edit: I'm not suggesting don't try it, if you want a serious ebook reader it's probably one of the best out there, and the only serious portable one I'm aware of.

Kindle Cloud Reader

If you buy books from Amazon, they now have a web based reader. No app required.
