MP3val Portable Dev Test 1

Application: MP3val
Category: Music
Description: MP3val is a small, high-speed, free software tool for checking MPEG audio files' integrity. It can be useful for finding corrupted files (e.g. incompletely downloaded, truncated, containing garbage). MP3val is also able to fix most of the problems.

(MD5: e73ea97216c4baa0b596951782e09345)

Release Notes:

Version 1.8 Dev Test 3 (2011-09-23)
Updated to PAL.
Version 1.8 Dev Test 2 (2009-10-25)
They updated the program because "The core was compiled with a lousy compiler that prevented it from proper interaction with the frontend." Although I dont how many are still using this, I updated it! Smile

Version 1.8 Development Test 1 (2009-06-30):

  • updated installer to 0.91.5 and ReadINIStrWithDefault.nsh 1.1 (2009-05-12)
  • Updated Program to version 1.8 (Gui remains at 0.1.1 but I changed the numbering)

Version 1.1 Development Test 1 (2008-05-09): Initial release

Warning: This Program is BETA so back your stuff up before you use it. Unfortunately the main App's development seems to have stopped since last summer. In addition to that, the Sourceforge bug tracker lists some problems like "Incorrect support for Unicode file names", "scan hangs when testing 0 byte MP3 files" or "ID3v2 tag removed for some files" to name the ones that I think are important.

I hope you guy like it and Patrick doesn't find too many things Smile

no problems so far

Just tried it on Vista Ultimate SP1, and it works without problems and leaves nothing obvious behind.

Updated to latest version

Nothing big; I just wanted a small App to try the updateing process using Johns new Installer.

I am curious if anybody is actually using this... Smile

actually

I've been looking for an MP3 validation tool, since I'm having some weird issues with syncing my Zen player to my PC, and I'm wondering if there is a corrupt file amongst my collection.

I'll give this a try, see if I can find it.... and thanks for portablizing it Smile

the program itself doesn't seem to like Vista 64 bit

I've tried this out a few days ago but haven't had the chance to comment until now.

The app starts fine but doesn't seem to do anything when I try to analyze an mp3. I'm using with Vista Ultimate 64bit (SP2).

It's not specific to the portable version because it does the same thing with the non-portable version.

Me too

Mine is the same on Vista Home premium (also SP2, though 32-bit) - just doesn't analyse anything. Also the same about the normal version not working so not a problem with your portabalisation.

Works in Vista Ultimate SP2

I've just gave it a try in Vista ultimate SP2, and it works without issue.

Nothing obvious left behind either.

Edit: forgot to mention I'm running the 64bit version of vista

Works in Windows 7 Pro 64bit

For what it's worth, I've just tried it in Windows 7 Pro 64bit and it works fine and leaves nothing obvious behind.

I have been using for some time.

This is an extremely useful tool. I have been using it to confirm whether issues with my vast mp3 collection are to do with the files or the numerous and often troublesome mp3 players I have. There are several other similar tools available but this is the best IMHO. Thanks for your work.

Because this is a development

Because this is a development test it cannot be downloaded through the platform.

You will need to download it manually from this thread, and then install it.
Easiest results will be to double-click the paf.exe file while the platform is running, or select Apps->Install a New App from the platform and browse to the downloaded file.
