Divx Web Player crashing!

please help. When I play videos on stage6 it says file cannot be downloaded and when I exit the tab, a popup appears saying that Divx Web Player had an Illegal Operation and then firefox just goes crazy.

The plugin works fine in Ie7 and standard firefox. Is it a problem in Firefox portable or is it just me?

help pls. Its really annoying that I have to use another browser to view videos

Maybe somebody actually is

Maybe somebody actually is looking for a way to help you. It's only been 1 day, these are forums, they dont always have the answers right away, or the time to respond.

I don't know if this will help, but a lot of plug-ins like that one use a .dll file in the \\plugins\ directory. You may need to find which dll belongs to the divx plug-in and copy it into \\FirefoxPortable\App\DefaultData\plugins\

NOPE

Itis not the /DefaultData/plugins folder!
in the DefaultData folder, there is the profile FF copies over to /Data if there isnt one in /Data (=first launch of the copy).
You have to copy it to PortableApps/FirefoxPortable/Data/plugins.
Or /PortableApps/FirefoxPortable/App/firefox/plugins.

Alright. I wasn't sure

Alright. I wasn't sure because there's like 4 different plugins folders, but if this is the case, why is there a text document in the DefaultData\Plugins folder that says "put your plugins here."?

Cause

It copies the content to /Data/plugins and John wanted it there.
But did you see the Readme.txt in the /App folder?
It says:

The files in this directory are necessary for Firefox Portable to function.
There is normally no need to directly access or alter any of the files within these directories.

And I think thats woh it is supposed to be.

ok

sorry for being so hasty. With my experience, the new microsoft media player plugin for firefox doesn't work with ff portable too without copying the plugin from its installation folder.

However, I've already tried copying the divx plugin to my plugins folder to no avail.

I've tried renaming my ff portable folder and then extracting a new one and running from it and it still does the same crashing.

The standard firefox installation works divx properly though along with when you run it from the app/firefox/firefox.exe, which only works when you have full firefox installation data on your computer.

more help please. thanks Smile

If this helps it says "could not download file" when I press play and it starts buffering

Ask DivX

For most 'plugins' you need to copy the DLL in. The proper place to copy DLLs is FirefoxPortable\Data\plugins. Not DefaultData.

Also, many plugins are just connectors between the actual app and Firefox. Windows Media Player, Quicktime, Real, etc. The plugin is just a connector between Firefox and the full app. Without the full app installed on a given PC, the plugin isn't gonna work. Period.

Since DivX is closed source and most folks here can't help you further with it, you should ask at the DivX site for more support information. Remember, this is a free site devoted to supporting the free apps here, so there's no people here paid to support you. As DivX is a paid commercial product (albeit with a free version available), they should be able to support you further.

I found the root of the problem

seems like there's something wrong with the default profile included with ff portable. I copied my profile from standard ff to the data/profile folder and divx now works properly.

Please look into this problem thank you

Cache

The only thing it could be is having the cache set to zero... which the plugin SHOULD work with. In short, it's a bug with DivX.
