Firefox Portable 1.5.0.6 Released

Firefox logoMozilla Firefox - Portable Edition (Firefox Portable among friends) has been updated to 1.5.0.6 following the recent bug fix release by Mozilla. For the unfamiliar, it's the popular Mozilla Firefox web browser packaged with a PortableApps.com Launcher as a portable app, so you can take your bookmarks, extensions and saved passwords with you. This new release includes all the new features - and the new name - introduced in the 1.5.0.5 release. Get it from the Firefox Portable homepage.

Wait, so if 1.5.0.6 is out already, how come when I use auto-update from 1.5.0.5, it doesn't prompt me about it?

Takes Time

Mozilla often doesn't activate the auto-update in Firefox right away. Sometimes they do it in waves (certain geographical areas at a time). It's not a huge release. Just some fixes for playing Windows Media content.

Oh well. In any case, I just downloaded the new version so I'm up-to-date. I've never seen such a short period between releases before.

Edit: And wait a minute, how could they do it for only certain areas at a time when the Internet is a global network and everyone has access to anything the minute it's put online?

IP Geolocation

I'd guess they're using IP geo-location. The reason for the quick release is that the bug affected the use of several high-profile sites resulting in a poor Firefox experience for folks that like those sites. So, it was given priority and a quick release.

is there a advantage to

is there a advantage to updating with your update over Firefox's auto update?

...

Using Firefox's autoupdate won't update the FirefoxPortable launcher. If you already have the 1.5.0.5 launcher, then that's fine, because I don't believe John's made any changes to it in 1.5.0.6.

typos

Hey,

I only want let you to know, that you have a typos in your Firefox Portable Launcher archive on sourceforge.

The newest version should be "1.2.1.1" (or maybe "1.2.1.0"?!).

The news/note entry on your sourceforge project files for the Firefox Portable Launcher shows "1.1.2.1"
The zipfile is named with the same version numbering..

But the NSIS script shows version "1.2.1.1".
The included readme file shows version "1.2.1.0". Laughing out loud

It's a little bit confusing, because your last Firefox Portable Launcher is 1.1.4.0 (I know it's PortableFirefox, not FirefoxPortable..^^ and older date..).

Just FYI.

best regards,

Fixed

I inverted the version numbers in the notes and on the name of the zip file.
