I hate to be pessimistic but I'm a little gun-shy after upgrading to 5.5 revision 2 and having all kinds of annoying issues.

Anyone care to share their experiences? Am I safe to upgrade or am I better off sticking with 5.4 for now? Anyone having problems with this not remembering sessions (open tabs), or giving all kinds of constant plugin upgrade messages?

No reflection on PA.c and I like this application a lot, I was just disappointed in the previous release.

I tried 2 things:
Upgrade from 5.4.5 to 5.5.1 and upgrade from 5.5 rev2 to 5.5.1.

In both cases the actual upgrade goes fine, but it asks me to update a plugin on first launch which includes downloading 2 others. After an auto-restart, my opened file is gone. it also deletes a plugin. I think it does that because it cant find its data because the data is in the data folder and not in the app folder. You can always say no to the plugin update but it will ask you on every launch.

It should restart properly, but of course anything you were working on will be gone. Then just close and reopen and you should be back to your proper portable Notepad++ install.

The issue is because Notepad++ itself has again broken compatibility with plugins that were included by default in previous versions of itself.

But it seems like it's stuck in an endless loop. Is this because it keeps downloading incompatible plugins repeatedly?

I don't see how this effects sessions either, unless that feature is a plugin too (which I suppose it could be).

I know this isn't the place to complain about the application itself, but I'm just trying to see if other users are experiencing the same problems with Notepad++ Portable as I am, and if they've been addressed yet.

Perhaps I should go straight to the source as it were, I just don't want the portable version being blamed for all the problems.

The update works fine for me and on next launch, it's fine. I double-checked by installing the 5.4.5 portable version, running and then installing 5.5.1 over it. The update prompt occurred, it updated, on next start I get the prompt about the other plugin no longer working and disabling, I say yes, done. All subsequent launches it works fine again.

Please post to the forums if you're still having problem. It is not a universal issue.

I was having the endless loop problem. I made a clean install in a new location and there's no issue now. there may have been some old pref file or god knows what that was causing a problem. no idea what.

Same issue here as above. Solution was a complete fresh install.

Many thanks for this. No plugin issues here (I don't really use them anyway) and I'm glad the "eyes" icon was so short-lived.

Thanks for finding these. I tried by failed. Don used to put the change logs up on the main website but it seems that he stopped doing that (maybe not enough time, I don't know).

I hate to see someone's work take a beating but I guess the icon didn't go down too well judging by some of the comments! Shock
