YAY!!! :D

Yay, I've been looking forward to this....
Thanks a million, John! Laughing out loud

"The question I would like to know, is the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe and Everything. All we know about it is that the Answer is Forty-two, which is a little aggravating."

What? Wait... I'm confused...

What?

Wait... I'm confused... FreeCommander staff handed over support to you?

In that case... life has just gotten 100% easier for me Laughing out loud

And I have so many questions now!

  • Does this have SVN Portable support? Chris Morgan is going crazy over SVN Sticking out tongue
  • Does this mean we're doing freeware apps now?
  • What's up with the direct link for download? Why aren't we using SF.net? (Not that, that's bad... just a little curious.)

Siggys waste Bandwidth... that's why I have one.

To answer your questions...

Actually, FreeCommander HAS a PortableApps version of their app on their site, and have had it for a while. PortableApps.com was the one who didn't let them add it to their site until now. However, the portable version has been on the offical free commander website for a long time.

No idea.

This is the second freeware app here (Not including Java Portable)

SourceForge only hosts Open Source apps. Since the origional app is freeware, this portable version follows the same licencing.

The guy who acts like he knows what he's talking about.

Too Funny

Ap always has been portable by default. What's really funny is using ap compactor from here to compress it down to a working 1.70 MB portable folder. SLOPPY

What? This FreeCommander was

What? This FreeCommander was never portable, unless your talking about the one the staff hosted on their site.

Compressing does not make an app portable.

Siggys waste Bandwidth... that's why I have one.

It is 100% Portable!!!

You are confusing portability with PAF compatibility. fc is capable of 100% portable functionality since the day it was released. All it needs is a few tweaks.

Kiching Koo!

NOO... it isn't. There's a

NOO...

it isn't.

There's a special package made by the FreeCommander team TO BE portable.
You need a special build by them.

Take a look here.

The link leads to the download for FreeCommander, however, below it are the alternative PORTABLE versions (U3, PortableApps.com, etc).d

FreeCommander inherently portable

I hate to get into pantomime style "Oh no it isn't. Oh yes it is" type game but I believe FreeCommander is inherently portable. i.e. you could download the setup version, run the installer, copy the program files from "program files" or wherever you installed it to, to a flash drive and run that copy.

It might not be "stealth" but I'm pretty sure it would work.

The PAF version handles things a little more nicely for the user though. Smiling

Directory structure

Yeah, many programs might be inherently portable with regards to the registry, and keep configs within their own installed directory, but using a PAF version does handle the PortableApps.com menu installation and creates the "standard" directory structure.

Some people need one, the other, or both.

Incidently, in the case of FreeCommander, the PAF version creates and uses the \TEMP directory within the installed directory instead of using the system's designated TEMP directory (commonly outside of the installed directory on drive C:).

So, the "oh no, oh yes" game has to consider what parts of "portable" you want to talk about.

The next step

The next step, obviously, is to link the Documents/Music/Photos/Videos/Explore links to FreeCommander Portable. If you guys could also integrate it with TeraCopy Portable automatically that would be great. (I have done that manually, just have the following string in the .ini):

FileMovePrg=..\TeraCopyPortable\TeraCopy.exe Move *%ActivSelAsFile% "%InactivDir%"
FileCopyPrg=..\TeraCopyPortable\TeraCopy.exe Copy *%ActivSelAsFile% "%InactivDir%"

Integration would make things much smoother. Good job, and let's make this happen!

Portableapps Menu Freecommander Integration

The next step, obviously, is to link the Documents/Music/Photos/Videos/Explore links to FreeCommander Portable.

I second that!

Intergration with Total Commander portable

Where exactly do you put is these lines in the *.ini file. Also which .ini file do you edit? Sorry new at this, and still learning
Thanks

WORM

Use caution with this. Spyware doctor flags this install file to contain "Worm.Opnis". Could be false flag or not but the risk is up to you.

brain the size of a planet... it give me a headache just thinking down at your level.

False worm?

I assume it would be a false positive due to the fact that I assumed the package being tested carefully before release.

On the other hand, your nick suggest you're a worm too? Is that a positive thing?
Laughing out loud

FreeCommander IS portable!!

FreeCommander IS portable!! You can use the normal unzipped binaries as "portable" without any problems, i am doing this for three years!

use virus total to check and

use virus total to check

and I think your avatar is inappropriate (but I can't tell)
I've decided it is.
and welcome to PortableApps.com

Don't wanna live my life in the real world

Problem whit Sync?

When I try "Compare" for Sync my flash memory with a laptop's folder, there continue appearing some files in the flash memory side as no present in the laptop's side. I compare by other means and all the files are equal on both sides.

I've loved FreeCommander for
