The news story was put in the wrong category.

Great Job Smile

But why I can't save my options?
After the program restarts, the options are reseted.

John T. Haller's picture

That's by design in the portable version of TeamViewer currently. Their zip version does the same thing.

This is what I've been waiting for Smile

Just a question (since no support page for this app yet) When I run this, will it generate different ID every time it runs (if run on the same computer? / if run on different computer)?

Thanks

I was wondering does this software rely on a connection to some server of theirs? If their server is down, for instance, would I still be able to connect? It appeared to call out as soon as the aplication was opened. Presumably to tell it that the app was listening for a connection, and to supply my ip address to whoever had the id#

It uses a centralized server for managing connections between parties. That's why it works through a firewall and multiple NAT routers without having to reconfigure them. It's also one of the things that makes it such a great support tool since you can just have anybody launch it and tell you their info over the phone or IM (preferably secured IM).

It's a way of ensuring security. You can create a free account with them to form a contacts list for quick access if you want much the same as Skype.

Thanks John I'm loving this so far Smile

I only just discovered this software, I've installed it on a remote user's laptop and successfully started a remote session from my PC off my memory stick. very handy, and makes the whole process a whole lot easier. Thanks for this great PortableApp!

What a great little application, surprised I haven't heard of it before. Thanks!

The TV Portable app (as downloaded directly from the TV site) will typically auto-disconnect after 5-15mins of use; unlimited use is only incl. w/ their Premium lifetime license.

Can you advise if this "feature" is also carried over into the PA version?

Thanks!
Dan

I could have sworn that I used it just the other day for about 30-45 minutes with my girlfriend's schoolwork (even longer during other sessions when I downloaded a large file from her computer), but that was just the main version from the official site, not the portable one.

I used the version downloaded from PA.com for 30+ minutes last night when I tested the app to do a little spring cleaning on my brothers laptop last night. Can you try the one available here and see if that gives you unlimited session times?

EDIT: Just had a look and the portable version on their site is not in PAF format. Also it states just below their download link

TeamViewer
Please notice: You may test TeamViewer portable. In order to use in commercially, you need to acquire a Premium license, since this license provides unlimited installations.

This would indicate the issue your having is unintentional. I suggest you retest to see if the issue is recurrent and if so contact the TeamViewer team direct to inform them. Also see in this thread that the TeamViewer team have been trying to publish a PortableApps version for quite some time and in a post they state it is 100% free for non-commercial use. Therefore the only possibility that occurs to me is your using a business version of Windows (eg an Enterprise edition) and TeamViewer detects this, limiting your sessions. This seems rather unlikely however.

The 'unlimited' licenses on the TeamViewer site apply to commercial licenses. So, if you buy one of the premium licenses, you as a business can then use TeamViewer on an unlimited number of computers and flash drives. That's what unlimited means.

TeamViewer is free for personal, educational and non-profit use.

Hello,

First of all a HUGE thanks to John for adding TeamViewer to PortableApps. We really appreciate it.

@ ameisez: The ID will be generated depending on the PC where you launch TeamViewer from the stick. So the ID is hardware based.

@ dtanPApps: We once planed to limit the Portable version but we never did, so it really works withouth any limitations for free users.

Thanks for all the positive feedback from the whole TeamViewer team!

Hi Constantin F,

I have tried to ask this in TV support/sales since the first day of release of TV PA version but had no reply, maybe you can answer.

I want to buy license for my TV PA version so that I can use this for my commercial support to enable my custom GUI created on TV site instead of the standard TV GUI before/after each session.

Perhaps the license should detect USB ID in this case to validate not the machine.

Do you have such license?

Thanks

Mikogo, which is also portable, is much better than Team Viewer

I have used both for a long while.

Mikogo has more featues and better performance.

I checked and while mikigo has more good stuff, it won't be applicable with someone using teamviewer to remote control unattended desktop like your own desktop at home or your windows server due to explicit consent feature.

Good presentation feature though, but I think I'll pass.

Thanks for the info. I haven't heard that mikigo till today Smile

I'll download this one. I've been using TeamViewer. And it already has portable option there. But it goes to server if I use it in a LAN computer.
If that was TeamViewer approval and agreement, I'll download this for sure. Thank you Smile

If you mean is the version an official TeamViewer product, yes it is. You're actually downloading it from their own servers.

I'd also like to know why there hasn't been an update. Last of what I checked on TeamViewer's site they have version 5 released but were still stuck with 4. And also when i try to connect to a person with a higher version of teamviewer, it says I have to update. I havn't updated it yet because im not sure if my non-cmercial license will be erased

Greetings; I have been using TV for a few months and love it. Glad to see that there is a PA version which I have now installed on my stick.

I've been doing obligatory "free" tech support for family and a few friends. TV now allows me to resolve issues without the drive time and expense. My family is quite happy as their issues get resolved far faster than before.

There are two boxes that I setup and configured, one with XP, one with Vista. I have installed the free version of ZoneAlarm on both. The other night I had a call for assistance with an issue and was able to work on it immediately. During diagnosis, ZoneAlarm's popup screen asking for permission to allow an application to access the Internet appeared. This is normal and I've seen it many times. The issue is that I could not manipulate ZoneAlarm through TeamViewer. I had to call the user and ask them to do it for me. On rebooting, ZA started to launch the control center and has been doing that on every reboot. I am unable to do anything with ZA through TV so until I can go onsite, this appears during every reboot. I had the user close it for me and then tried to go into ZA to fix this. ZA does not appear to see me through a TV session. I have had no issues with any other application through TV. Everything is normal in a local session when I'm onsite. Has anyone else seen this? *Unfortunately, the license-free version of TV does not include any tech support and I can find no notes about this in their online tech support database.

Please type slower, I can't keep up!

OH, CANADA! We stand on guard for thee!

Hello WiMax,
Sorry for the late answer.
We already heard about this problem, but there is also a solution:
Your partner has to deactivate the ZoneAlarm client protection in the options menu. After that you should also be able to access the ZoneAlarm control center.
Best,
Constantin
