Features

  • Native RDP Connections - Using the 2X Client you can now connected to a machine running Microsoft Terminal Server using a Remote Desktop Protocol connection. Administrators can easily configure desktop connections and publish applications using one tool.
  • Embedded Desktops - With your 2X Client you can now use Embedded Desktops. This allows you to load a number of different Desktops inside one application. Switching between the different desktops is as simple as clicking on a different tab.
  • ApplicationServer: Publish applications and Desktops - 2X ApplicationServer allows you to publish particular applications installed on a Terminal Server onto the desktop of a remote user. For example you can tunnel just an accounts package onto a user’s local desktop without giving the user access to a full desktop or publish a full desktop as an application on the Terminal Server.

2X ApplicationServer: 2X is offering a 30-day trial version of the full version of 2X ApplicationServer for Windows Terminal Services. Users can also use the 3-connection free version by registering for the 3-connection license key on the 2X website. Get it from the 2X ApplicationServer download page today.

PortableApps.com Installer / PortableApps.com Format

2X Client Portable is packaged in a PortableApps.com Installer so it will automatically detect an existing PortableApps.com installation when your drive is plugged in. It supports upgrades by installing right over an existing copy, preserving all settings. And it's in PortableApps.com Format, so it automatically works with the PortableApps.com Suite including the Menu and Backup Utility.

I have. Open it up and click File - Add New Terminal Server Connection. Feed it your IP or host name and config as needed.

Keep in mind that you have to open up port 3389 on your home firewall and router for it to work from outside.

This deal is getting worse all the time? Just sign up to use. I think we will soon need a freeware scrubber utility. I am using chrome though.

Personnally, I don't like the idea of having a crippled version of a paid program in my PortableApps. I support 100% OpenSource and I suggest that this kind of closed source program should be put in a different site.

I choose freedom that's all! Let's not open the door to hell with semi-open source proprietary software here.

Again, this isn't crippled, doesn't require registration and even has a free version of the local software that supports 3 connections available.

If you want to comment on freeware, please do so in our announcement:

I agree with imaginasys! Don't open the door to this kind of software.

Extract from the home page:
"Free
The PortableApps.com Suite and Platform is free. It contains no spyware. There are no advertisements. It isn't a limited or trial version. There is no additional hardware or software to buy. You don't even have to give out your email address. It's 100% free to use, free to copy and free to share."

Extract from the 2X Client Portable page:

trial freeware
3-connection = limited
registering = give an email address

Radmin (www.radmin.com) isn't freeware software even if they release a freeware console client. This is the same case.
With this kind of thought, you should release this in a portable version too.

I really hate google for freeware software and after installed I discovery trial or shareware version!!!
It isn't honest to pirating software, but it isn't honest too, to promote, disseminate and publish software as freeware when it is not.
If only one part of the software is not free, entire software isn't free.

Once again, registration isn't required. The client is entirely free for both personal and commerical use and works with multiple servers including RDP which is built into Windows. We simply mention the server, too, in case people are interested. The client is free.

Again, this is the type of discussion that should take place in the forum, not as comments on a news story. It's a big deal getting freeware to support an open source and open format like PortableApps.com. If you want to comment on the merits of it, do so in the forums and start a discussion. Don't spam all over a news post.

Don't like it so much for some reasons:
1) The Application Server sounds good, but when you take a closer look than you will find that the Microsoft Terminal Services are required.
And I'm quite sure there are other free possibilities to provide portable remote access
2) 3 Connections are fine, but for example the Devolution Remote Desktop Manager don't have such limitations in there free standard version.
3) In my opinion it looks much just like a possibility to make money for somebody. But that's just my opinion..
