I've just tried to open portable N++ on PC where non-portable version of N++ is already installed.. It looks like that the N++ launcher cannot correctly re-register existing file-type handlers, so double-clicking .txt files opens Windows dialog "Open with...". After closing portable version .txt files are handled properly.
Should I think that the problem will be solved in future? Wink
Thank you for your passions.

it (the portable version) is not supposed to register anything.
There are people working on something to register file types temporairly for portable use but thats a different project.

Yes. It seems you're right. But registry monitoring shows that N++P launcher changed "Notepad++_file" entry for backup purposes, and restored it back after closing. Thus, I can not open file types registered to N++ while N++P is running.

Where could I find more info about this project?

There are two:

PortableFileAssociator which changes the Registry

and

eXpresso which monitores doubleclicks in the explorer window.

So PFa will work from any application trying to open a file but it has the risk of leaving renamed registry entries when not properly closed.
eXpresso does not have this risk, but only works within the Windows Explorer.
