Features

screenshotThe SeaMonkey project is a community effort to develop the SeaMonkey all-in-one internet application suite. Such a software suite was previously made popular by Netscape and Mozilla, and the SeaMonkey project continues to develop and deliver high-quality updates to this concept. Containing an Internet browser, email & newsgroup client with an included web feed reader, HTML editor, IRC chat and web development tools, SeaMonkey is sure to appeal to advanced users, web developers and corporate users. Under the hood, SeaMonkey uses much of the same Mozilla source code which powers such successful siblings as Firefox, Thunderbird, Camino, Sunbird and Miro. Learn more about SeaMonkey...

New In This Release

This release updates SeaMonkey to the latest version and adds an Italian package.

Auto-Update Issue

If you allow SeaMonkey, Portable Edition to auto-update, some non-personal files may remain on the local PC. This will be addressed in a later release.

PortableApps.com Installer / PortableApps.com Format

SeaMonkey, Portable Edition is packaged in a PortableApps.com Installer so it will automatically detect an existing PortableApps.com installation when your drive is plugged in. And it's in PortableApps.com Format, so it automatically works with the PortableApps.com Suite including the Menu and Backup Utility.

Download

SeaMonkey, Portable Edition is available for immediate download from the SeaMonkey, Portable Edition homepage. You can get the other localized releases from the Localization page. Get it today!

Hi, I've got a problem. I'm trying to migrate from PortableTB to PortableSM, but when I try to use the emport tool, I only can crash the program. How can I migrate manually? I pretty sure the problem is something related to the portability of the software, just when is trying to find the PortableTB files; anyway, I have sent the crash report.

This isn't an offtopic, I mean, which are the files where SM personal settings are stored?

I really appreciate having one portable app for mail and browser. Seamonkey is working nicely for me too. I am about 5 days into PortableApps Platform now. Things are going well enough for me to wonder if they are going too good. And, sure enough... up pops the "critical update" for Seamonkey. At least I am highly advised to do it now for my own safety's sake, or not, at the peril of my own life.
Question: In this Portable setting, can I just let Seamonkey do it's own upgrade. Or, do I need to uninstall it and re-install the updated version; which, would or would not be adapted for PortableApps Platform. Relief from my quandry would be appreciated Pardon Pardon

Yes, we all get to wait see...

That "strongly advised" update is offered from SeaMonkey itself, not the Portable version. If you update, you might leave data behind on every machine you run it on, or worse, the Portability might be broken... For updates of your Portable version of SeaMonkey (SeaMonkeyPortable), updates will only be available from this website, and it will either have to be done manually or via PortableApps Platform.

Then, you must be wondering, why the heck is the update option left checked in the Portable version?! Well, the answer is quite simple - Mozilla doesn't allow it! Mozilla gave an exclusive license to PortableApps.com to repackage their software as Portable, but in all of Mozilla's software the Update function has to be set to enabled... Sad And that can unfortunately lead to the leaking of information (if updated from Mozilla's website), or even breakage of portability...

In short, update from this place only, when update is available. It's simple, you can just install on top of the old one to update it.

Cheers Smile

I really appreciate your rapid "Don't Update" reply. Maybe more clarity ( https://portableapps.com/support/portable_app#upgrading ) would not be politically correct... I don't know. In fact I only know enough to say that I'm sure if I muck up Windows, I have to re-install Windows.
Over the past few years I have glanced at what is happening at PortableApps. I feel confident using this PortableApps Platform and thank all the PA regulars for making it possible.
Thanks again dboki89 for letting me know.

No problem, glad to be of help Smile

Well, the support links could have a bit more info on them... Maybe Admins are counting on the Support forum where usually a very quick response is given (within a day, or even just a few hours) to issues people have. Problem is, some questions are asked over and over, and those are the questions I would (if I were Admin of course) consider adding to the Support page.

Also (if any admin is reading this, please consider it), there should be a line added to that Support page you linked to which would say something like:
Due to licensing issues with some of our Apps, like Mozilla's programs, the Update option had to be left enabled. This can lead, if updated by that program itself, to the loss of information, leakage of information, or even loss of Portability for that program. Please uncheck the Update option in your Portable Application if it is checked. For details on how to do that, please refer our Support page for that specific App. - for example. Or anything similar to that.

Of course, a small tip for how to disable the Update button for every app would have to be provided on the Support pages of those programs... But all that should be very easy to do.
At least, that's my opinion Smile

Very complete package...

Only thing I might miss is a password autofill program that also does multiple page autofill logins. Found a few for Firefox. Can't find one for SeaMonkey.

Can't have everything.
