PortableApps.com developer Steve Lamerton will be representing us at FOSDEM 2010 in Brussels on February 6th and 7th. He'll be giving a Lightning Talk on the PortableApps.com Platform on Saturday. You may be most familiar with Steve as the developer behind our popular Toucan backup, sync and encryption utility. Hopefully, you can drop in on Steve's lightning talk Saturday morning. This didn't go up properly yesterday as it should have. I heard from a friend that the lightning talk went great

Was this know at an earlier stage so you could have promoted it on time so people could have visited FOSDEM who otherwise would not have?
Newsletter
It was promoted in the newsletter and it's on the FOSDEM site as well. As with OSCON, we don't really promote it largely ahead of time as we're more mentioning it for people attending the conference, not promoting it to the general userbase expecting them to come to the conference just for a short lightning talk as I did at OSCON and Steve did at FOSDEM. If we wind up doing a larger presentation somewhere, we'll promote that earlier and louder.

EDIT: just watched it. Good talk Steve, encouraging developers to make their apps portable friendly is a great way to spread the word and get more apps and users.

. Same thing when I finally saw JTH.
I guess the only thing I have to say is keep the slides up with you. And avoid ums. (Which is a pet peeve from taking speech classes and a music class in which we gave a speech that the teacher would have people do things like bang gongs when you said um).
Otherwise, it was a excellent talk. You did a very good job, in spite of my pet peeves. Thanks for representing the site.
(Can you tell I'm not very good at giving criticisms? Take it with a grain of salt, and yell at me when I stagger beck to IRC if needed.)

I can testify to that. I've done public events with 25-30 people, and it's more than a bit trying to get up in front of them. There were, what, 100 people in that room?
