Features

Toucan Screenshot Toucan is a small utility allowing you to synchronise, backup and secure your data with more options than the built in suite utilities. Its features include:

  • Four synchronization modes, copy, update, mirror and equalize.
  • Four backup modes, complete, update, incremental and restore, in industry standard zip and 7-zip files
  • AES-256 encryption using ccrypt.
  • Command line support, allows you to create a batch file for repeated jobs

New In This Release

Toucan 3.0.2 is a bug fix release. A number of fixes are included, mainly targeting issues in Sync and specifically it's preview mode.

Please note existing 2.0 scripts are not compatible with Toucan 3, they will need to be rewritten in the new scripting language, for more information see the improved help system linked to in the help.html file in the root of your install.

PortableApps.com Installer / PortableApps.com Format

Toucan is packaged in a PortableApps.com Installer so it will automatically detect an existing PortableApps.com installation when your drive is plugged in. And it's in PortableApps.com Format, so it automatically works with the PortableApps.com Suite including the Menu and Backup Utility.

Comments

Yes, thanks for your work, but we still are not ok.
When I expand the directories the program often crash.
And in the Sync mode there is still lot of bugs. I was trying to check and feed back to you the bugs, but it crash to much times and there is still so much bugs, I have not too much time to waste.
Finally I still continue with the 1.2.2 release.
Good luck

put it this way, every bug that someone has given me steps to reproduce up to now has been fixed, apart from one that was just a little too late for this release.

If a version that is well over two years old works best for you then that is fine, but please don't post comments like 'there is still lot of bugs' without any steps to reproduce or help me track down the problem, it is worse than useless.

It is from the first release 2.0 of Toucan I signal bugs never fixed and I still can't use it. I began to well test the last release, but, you know, after many crash during the test I was upset and I stopped and write the comment as you could read. As a senior analyst programmer I tell you again thanks for your job, but please stop to release not well tested products or release it as beta and wait for feed back from people who would help you. Not every people have time to waste, the life is short and I become too much old and have always less time left to me.
Sorry and thank again

Again, where are the steps to reproduce the bugs?

I am sure that Steve would NEVER release an Edition of Toucan that has so many bugs you can't use it.

As a senior analyst programmer you should understand what a proper bug report is and is not.

but maybe it is better to try before to be sure.
Or not?
byeeeee

Please stop with the troll-like statements. You've been asked to provide a set of reproducible steps so that developers and testers can reproduce the bugs you are seeing. By doing so, you allow them to actually find the cause of the bug and fix it. If you want the bug fixed, please provide the steps.

If you do not, it seems more like you are trolling - just stirring up trouble for the sake of it to annoy people - rather than actually having an interest in seeing the bugs you are experiencing get fixed.

If you actually are a developer, then you know full well that developers are not mind readers. They can't magically know what the issues are that you are seeing. Nor the steps taken to produce the issue. So please be helpful and create a post in the forum *DETAILING* any issues you are seeing and how you came across them.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

When you run Sync, the Toucan version displayed is 3.0.1, proof that you didn't even ran it before releasing it. You don't need steps to find the bugs. All you need to do is run it and test it yourself, not wait till someone tells you were the bugs are.

I can confirm that the progress window (or whatever it's called) still shows 3.0.1.

Regards

Nick

It seems like all people want to do is moan and groan about things not working but not clearly describe exactly what is not working. I am sure Steve has tested and retested his app before releasing it. So if you can not give concrete details about what is wrong then how can he fix them? In the meantime I am sure no one is twisting your arm about using the FREE PROGRAM? There must be alternatives out there that you can use or even pay for?

Hi,

Doing a sync/mirror from my laptop hard drive to an external USB drive (with Toucan running from a separate flash drive), the app crashes systematically if using "short comparison". "Long comparison" works fine.

Cheers,
Fred

PS : leaving for a month tomorrow, so might not be able to follow up, I hope I have given enough info to test and possibly reproduce.

thanks for the report, this should be fix in the latest pre-release, available here. In future could you possibly post in the main forum? Stuff tend to get lost on front page comments, thanks!
