logoGoogle Chrome Portable 8.0.552.215 Stable an 9.0.597.10 Dev have been released. The Stable version is also being pushed to users with Beta installed via the Updater. Google Chrome Portable is a web browser that runs web pages and applications with lightning speed. It's designed to be simple and stylish. This release updates Google Chrome to the latest version. We're also changing the way we handle Beta releases to match Google's channels (more details below). It's packaged as a portable app, so you can take your browsing experience with you and it's in PortableApps.com Format so it can easily integrate with the PortableApps.com Suite. It's partially open source freeware for personal and business use.

Read on for more details...

PortableApps.com Platform 2.0 Beta 5 users who already have this app installed, simply click 'Check for Updates' in your PA.c Menu to update to the new version.

Features

screenshotGoogle Chrome's features include:

  • Quick to start up
  • Loads web pages in a snap
  • Runs web applications faster than ever
  • Designed for efficiency and ease of use
  • Search and navigate to web pages from the same box
  • Arrange and organize tabs however you wish — quickly and easily
  • Get to your favorite websites with just a click, from the thumbnails of your most visited sites in the New Tab page
  • Themes to add delight to your browser

New In This Release

This release updates Google Chrome to the latest version. We've also changed the way we handle Google Chrome beta releases. Instead of GoogleChromeTest, they will be installed to GoogleChromeBeta to eliminate confusion. Existing installations, you can rename your GoogleChromeTest folder to GoogleChromeBeta and it should continue to work and update with the automatic updater (you may need to reinstall your theme, though). From now on, we will be releasing the same files pushed to all channels that local users would receive. So, if you are running the beta, you will also receive stable updates when Chrome is not in a current beta cycle, just as a local install with the beta channel selected would. Stable and Beta builds will continue to be announced on the frontpage. Dev builds will be posted to the Google Chrome Portable homepage but not announced via the homepage (as it updates about weekly). If you're using the current PortableApps.com Platform 2.0 Beta, you'll get automatic updates for all 3 as soon as they are released.

PortableApps.com Installer / PortableApps.com Format

Google Chrome Portable is packaged in a PortableApps.com Installer so it will automatically detect an existing PortableApps.com installation when your drive is plugged in. It supports upgrades by installing right over an existing copy, preserving all settings. And it's in PortableApps.com Format, so it automatically works with the PortableApps.com Suite including the Menu and Backup Utility.

Download

Google Chrome Portable is available for immediate download from the Google Chrome Portable homepage. The Development and Beta builds are available from the test section. Get it today!

This looks like the same on-going issue when trying to install extensions. I had to quite using Google Chrome Portable since I couldn't install or update any extensions. Google points to the Portable App as the problem and the Portable Apps developer says it's Google Chromes fault. Seems after months no-one has found a fix. Sad

It just worked for me using the 10.0.603.3 release and doing a quick Google Chrome install to my desktop. Are you sure you have your Windows TEMP directory properly defined on a drive that has enough free space? Maybe we should check that in the launcher. If you have additional issues with a fresh install after verifying free space, please post a note in the forums with all the details of what happened (OS, install location, chrome version, app or extension you tried to install, exact steps, etc) so we can properly diagnose it.

I had the same issue while trying to install ProxySwitchy! extension for using TOR. Here,i noticed that the folder for the profile it was trying to access was "PROFILE"; but the default profile folder is named as "profile". So i renamed the folder, started ChromePortable & tried to install & voila ! - it works. After the extension was installed, i had to rename the folder back to lower case once again.

To the developer, please look into how to profile folder is being referred to 7 accessd by chrome & extensions.

As detailed a couple times in this thread, we need more information and not in the news story. See this post: https://portableapps.com/news/2010-12-07_-_google_chrome_portable_8.0.55...

We need more information such as detailed in the post and PLEASE do not post it as random comments in a news story. Please create a bug report post in the Other Apps support forum with more details and exact error messages, install paths, version, etc etc.

I just installed Switch Proxy 1.4.2 and ProxySwitchy 1.6.3 into Google Chrome Portable 8.0.552.215 without any issue at all, no need to rename or anything, so it is something different about your setup. Without that information in an easy to track place, we will not be able to troubleshoot your issue.

Download 8.0.552.215 for Windows, Multilingual
1+11MB download / 34MB installed

Download takes about 24MB, and installed size is about 76MB. The same goes for Beta and Dev versions (Beta +24MB / 76MB; Dev +24 / 83MB).

The first 2 installers show the correct sizes when ran, however the Dev installer claims "Space required: 72.7MB" while it's slightly bigger on the disk. Hope you don't mind the corrections Smile

[Edit]: I'm referring to the size of those downloads when the installers are ran, not the download sizes of the installers themselves...

My posts are old and likely no longer relevant.

I fixed the page and the updater database, thanks.

I also did the 10.0.603.3 Dev release as well.

latest dev is 9.0.597.16
so you did the Canary version.
By mistake?

*not complaining* - just curious*

Stable, Beta V.8
Dev V.9
Canary V.10

then Beta will receive v9, dev will advance to v10 and Canary will experiment v11

Sometimes making love is just not enough, you have to step it up!

You're right. I'll remedy this with the 9.0.597.16 Dev release in the next couple hours. Anyone on 10.x will have to manually 'upgrade' back to 9.0.597.16.

1. Download and install over ?
2. Is there a risk of losing data?

-Thanks
