Features

ScreenshotSpybot - Search & Destroy detects and removes spyware, a relatively new kind of threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications. Spyware silently tracks your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile for you that is transmitted without your knowledge to the compilers and sold to advertising companies. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven't intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been "hijacked" (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware. Even if you don't see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging.

To see a list of threats Spybot-S&D can remove, in the navigation bar at the left click on Support --> Threats. For an introduction to Spybot-S&D, please read the tutorial. If you fear incompatibility with other software you are now using, although we can assure you that there is no danger you can review our compatibility overview which lists some software whose compatibility has been analyzed.

Spybot-S&D can also clean usage tracks, an interesting function if you share your computer with other users and don't want them to see what you have been working on. And for professional users, Spybot-S&D allows you to fix some registry inconsistencies and extended reports.

Thanks Kenny for all your work on this, I know it was a bit trickier than most apps. And thanks Safer Networking Ltd for giving us permission to portablize Spybot!

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Thanks Kenny for making it possible to have this on my portable drive starting from dev test and now as an official release its even better. Thanks for all the hard work on this project! Smile

That's a good news. Thanks a lot to the developer(s)!

Having portable version sounds very attractive, since I cannot (rather not allowed) do many installations on win7 x64. The reasons are not interesting Smile

It would be nice to be able using at least the immunization part

Question for the experts:

Are there any known problems running SB on win7 x64?

Thank you in advance

I run x64 Win 7, and I've encountered no problems. Just make sure to run with admin rights. I don't think immunization works properly unless you do.

Also: thank you so much for releasing this! I've been waiting for Spybot Portable for months. It's an essential addition to any anti-malware toolkit.

SWAG

A note regarding the immunization feature, I just asked them if they would be willing to work with us to allow the ability to immunize Firefox, Portable Edition and so on. I hope they'll be interested.

For the mean time you can immunize a local copy of Firefox then just transfer the permission.sqlite file from the local copy to the portable copy and there they will be but you have to make sure site preferences isn't deleted at all so they will stay that is something hopefully safenetworking will fix in the next version of spybot.

Been hoping this would be available for a long time now. Thanks Smile

PortableApps.com Advocate

This is a major coup! Congrats to ScriptDaemon and the PortableApps team.

Update: Another app uninstalled! CHECK
FWIW, when I uninstalled the regular version of SS&D, I submitted a comment that I'm installing the portable version instead. Perhaps that will help SaferNetworking to assess the popularity of the portable version if others choose do the same.

Just a reminder that this does not support the teatimer. Just in case that's something you use.

can you still get definition updates for this app? just to make sure because apps like these tend to have frequent definition updates. Pardon

John T. Haller's picture

That's why it took a while for this app to be portablized, because of the way it updates. We wanted to be sure and handle that all properly.

awesome! PA has needed a spyware scanner for a while and this will be a very handy tool to add to my arsenal

Had no idea this was being created. Very useful, have used Spybot for many years, but find I tend to use the tools now rather than the main program so this might be perfect for me.

I am curious how teatimer (Resident) works with the portable version. I like to have resident running 24/7 and only use the other tools on occasion.

Also how is the definitions update with this?

Thanks for the hard work.

Currently, Teatimer is not used. I may look into it in the future, but most users during development testing claimed it wasn't needed anyway. Normally, if a user wants real-time protection, he or she would install the program to his or her computer.

You can use the updater to update definitions without any problems.

Aww that's a pity, it's the main reason I use the program at all. It's ridiculous how many programs try and start with the system without asking. Autoruns is great for after-the-fact but this prevents it happening which is fantastic.

I guess I'll stick with the original Spybot for now then.

Cheers.

Never thought I'd see this one portable. Very nice work, I bet it was a time consumer.

Load the App and Play

Hi to everyone and thanks to the PortableApps.com team for all their great work to date!

So pleased to see Spybot S&D added to your repertoire Smile

Can anyone please tell me if it's possible to (and also how) add the file scan option to Windows Explorer's context menu, for the PA version?

Many thanks

Oaken

John T. Haller's picture

Explorer context menus are not portable. If we left it as a possibility and added it in, we'd need to purposely crash all Explorer windows and the Windows start menu/taskbar to properly remove it so you could then eject your portable device.

You could add it to the Send To menu yourself if you wanted though.

Hello Group;

Has anyone tried the manual update process. By this I mean when you download the "EXE" file and run it. Some of us are on a firewall which prevents automatic updates. I have thew same problem with ClamWin but I can do it manually in ClamWim.

Frank D. Hubeny

Works the best of any manual defs update, very easy, used it on a computer yesterday that has no internet connection, download manual update file from spybot homepage, (safer networking), put it on a usb memory stick or whatever, the file is called 'spybot includes' its an .exe file just run it, it gives you the the chance to save it to spybot portables 'Includes' folder, which is where it needs to end up to work, you just browse to that folder and it goes straight in, very smooth, then do your normal immunize to bring spybot portable right up to date, then run a scan, nice system.

in this portable version of the app.

This would (imo) be more for a tech stick removal tool.

I am very happy to see it fully portablized.
I have been using it portable as a direct copy from install and that does work.
Updating is tricky yes, but this is nice. Thank You.

Again, TeaTimer should be reserved only for the full install of SpyBot
Not the portable version, there is no need for it in Portable.

It is really too bad Malwarebytes refuses portability.

Hello, thank you so much for making Spybot Portable; having Spybot in my pocket will be extremely handy.

I was noticing however that Spybot's "128x128" icon appears to be a smaller icon that's been blown up and isn't exactly the most pleasing thing to look upon.
So I searched around on the internet and found a higher quality image on the Hubris Support website, maybe you could swap it in instead. [would you have to ask for permission? idk]
