i am thinking maybe a generic online installer that grabs the new version of chrome every time so that you need to update the installer all the time

We get the updates out same-day nearly all the time. And the installers are keyed to specific versions so they can actually verify the download Google for integrity (and security). A generic installer or updater couldn't do that and would thus be less secure and more prone to issues.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

I tried this with the 2.0 Beta 5 launcher and it refused to run. I had to go back to the 9.0 version of Chrome.
