7-zip actually makes a pretty good file manager. It shows all the files, including the desktop.ini things, and it let's you open them. ( categories: )

Suggestion... FreeCommander isn't open source [i guess], but have U3 and PAF version on its website... http://www.freecommander.com/fc_u3_en.htm
