Assault Cube Portable 0.9.3 Development Test 2 (Testers Needed)Submitted by Patrick Patience on January 30, 2008 - 2:19am.
This is Simeon's Project and Work I am only posting this here as I had to upload it for him, and I didn't think adding a link to the new release in the old topic would be very efficient. Description Assault Cube is a free first-person shooter game based off of the game 'Cube'. The graphics are fantastic and the game is tons of good fun. This latest Portable release comes with some minor fixes, as well as the ability to run Windowed or Full Screen. Please select and option and let me know if you automatically get that same option used next time, or if you run into problems. Thank you, please test it out and enjoy. Download Assault Cube Portable 0.9.3 Development Test 2 Thank you again. ( categories: )

Downloading
right now... but testing later 'cause I have a date in few minutes...
If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port,
and the bus is interrupted as a very last resort,
and the address of the memory makes your floppy disk abort,
then the socket packet pocket has an error to report
Tested
I tried this new release on Windows Vista Home Premium and I have to say that it was more difficult to make it run than the first release... this version is more unstable, I can't say why... I even had to use ctrl+alt+del to kill it the first time I run it, the second time it worked ok...

hmmm
Simeon - January 31, 2008 - 1:44pmweird.
The only things I changed were the "run windowed" thing and some nsis-variables. None of them should affect the actual game.

let
me try again... and on XP

tested
on my two PCs and in my friend's PCs, it works very good (except on my Vista PC).
Moreover, the installed folder is copied in my friends computer since they want to keep it, so... for your downloading stats, add another 25 computers... one of the guys took it and copied on their University's PCs, to play in LAN...
I'm sorry for this delay, I totally forgot to report... shame on me...

cool
Simeon - February 4, 2008 - 1:55pmI am glad it works.
Maybe I'll have a vista machine for testing later this week.
And unfortunately, I dint have downloading stats, but maybe my hoster (thanks you Patrick) has...?
EDIT
Did you test DevTest 1 or 2?

this post was about the last version (2)... my comments about the first one are in the original post of that one...

I played this a few times
Gizmokid2005 - February 4, 2008 - 9:30amI played this a few times with the last release. I got it installed and will be sure to give it a test when I finally get a chance
(work doesn't look down too well on game playing...)
the window
carlord2 - February 7, 2008 - 1:17pmtheir is something wrong with the full screen version that makes the computer freeze. the window should be re-sizable.
sorry
Simeon - February 7, 2008 - 2:45pmI don't understand what you mean. If its full screen you cant resize it.
When exactly does your Computer freeze?

Patrick Patience (Homepage) - February 13, 2008 - 8:15pmI just went in and checked my Download Statistics, check this out:
I'm gonna have to put you on SourceForge with these kinda downloads for an app that big. Only for this app, of course. E-mail me with your SourceForge username.

well...
Simeon - February 14, 2008 - 5:25pmI think its pretty stable.
"I was just out walking my rat and I seem to have lost my way" - James Bond in Diamonds are forever
Yes
you should release it as a stable version...
I'm thinking in how difficult it was to find somebody able to portabilize this game and how popular it is now...
I'm still dreaming with UFO: Alien Invasion...

downloaded and am testing
Skeletorfw - February 14, 2008 - 7:55pmdownloaded and am testing tomorrow on a few different systems
will feedback soon
when is this likely to go on full release?
Great!
Skeletorfw - February 15, 2008 - 7:45amThis works fine, on three different PCs running windows home
only one reccuring problem:
there is no way to move the window when running in windowed mode
which therefore means you can't see your health and ammo counts (if you have them, i cant move the window to check)
overall good though
runs proficiantly on a 1.6ghz single core processor
I noticed that too
Simeon - February 15, 2008 - 9:22amand haven't found a way around it. I think the installed version has the same problem, too so...
"I was just out walking my rat and I seem to have lost my way" - James Bond in Diamonds are forever
I think
Skeletorfw - February 15, 2008 - 10:23amI think it's do with the way the program reacts to mouse movements
also if you use windows + D keys and then try to move the window, you get it stuck at the bottom
i had to re-install it
Do youmean the
Simeon - February 15, 2008 - 11:34amportable version?
There is a ini file in the /Data/ folder. If you delete it it will ask you again if you want to run it windowed or full screen.
"I was just out walking my rat and I seem to have lost my way" - James Bond in Diamonds are forever
thanks
Skeletorfw - February 16, 2008 - 8:18amit's sorted now
i'm having to run in full screen though
thanks
Simeon
Patrick Patience (Homepage) - February 15, 2008 - 11:06pmI didn't get your e-mail, maybe the wrong address. Remember just myfirstnamemylastname@mysite. Also, downloads on this a week have gone up 40, and Atomic Tanks is at 120.

ok
Simeon - February 16, 2008 - 8:24amI´ll resend it.
And as a precaution, I uploaded a text file with the email to my space on your server.
And its cool if people like my Apps
"I was just out walking my rat and I seem to have lost my way" - James Bond in Diamonds are forever
few slight hitches
Skeletorfw - February 17, 2008 - 8:25amdunno if these are just a problem in the whole program, or in the portable only, but you cant load custom maps
:S
or any custom things
you've gotta replace things instead
Yes
Simeon - February 17, 2008 - 8:51amI noticed that too but didn't have the time to investigate it. I hope that I find some time next week.
"I was just out walking my rat and I seem to have lost my way" - James Bond in Diamonds are forever
Don't worry about it
Skeletorfw - February 18, 2008 - 12:36pmIt's actually in the standard version of 0.93 as well,
should be fixed in 0.94
in the meantime you can load maps by pressing the usual console key (tilde) and typing in:
Map [name of the map you want to load](as soon as you type in "map" it comes up with a tooltip explaining it all in greater detail)
and i'm also working on re-skinning the models, just in case anyone is interested
thanks for the info
Simeon - February 18, 2008 - 2:46pmsaves me the search time
"I was just out walking my rat and I seem to have lost my way" - James Bond in Diamonds are forever
I noticed that too
But didn't think too much about it, since there is no much space on a PDrive to load it with maps and guns...

Actually
Skeletorfw - February 18, 2008 - 5:42pmthe maps are tiny
like 188 kbps
but yeah, i see where you're coming from
Windowed
Justin813 - February 20, 2008 - 1:30pmNoticed a few people complaining about its windowed capabilities. Any of you considered trying DxWnd? Haven't tried it myself because I preferred the full screen mode when I tried it. Maybe check into that.
DxWnd?
Skeletorfw - February 20, 2008 - 1:46pmwhat is that?
is it free?
it seems to be free
Simeon - February 20, 2008 - 1:54pmI just googled it and there are several places you can download it from. Some seem kinda weird though. I read it is a program that forced other programs to run windowed but I didn't try it.

YAY!
Stevoisiak - April 4, 2008 - 10:47amFinally a 3D shooter made portable!
status update
Travis Carrico - April 23, 2008 - 3:16pmso any news on if we can do this app or not? it is just a permission thing or a closed source library thing?
Its kind of unclear
Simeon - April 24, 2008 - 5:44pmbut I got a mail by one of the devs (the lead-Artist actually) and he said its ok. So I guess its ok. I also wrote a mail to John cause he asked and wanted to know more after having read tis thread but I never got a response.
"I was just out walking my rat and I seem to have lost my way" - James Bond in Diamonds are forever
cool
Travis Carrico - April 24, 2008 - 11:09pmwell i don't know the situation but if it's open source and on sourceforge and you got permission from them, then i don't see how there could be any problems with releasing this. this is good news because i would love this app to be released next
Hmm, why would we go out and
LOGAN-Portable (Homepage) - April 25, 2008 - 3:52amHmm, why would we go out and ask permission for open source software to make a portable version!?!
anyway, I think this would be cool as official app, but there are MANY cool apps waiting for a release somehow. Maybe we should find a way to publish complete releases somewhere (not as alpha/beta quality) with an alternative splash screen and when PortableApps finally catches up John can just pick the apps and slap an PortableApps splash on them.
This way all the beta apps can be pulled out of limbo and the masses can start enjoying a bunch of 'new' apps.
