Portable WinSCP (FileZilla SCP:SSH Support)

Right now we don't have a Windows portable GUI solution for SCP transfers from any remote linux machine to which ever local machine that we may be using. I know there is the command-line functionality for PSCP and PuTTY, and WinSCP for installation alternatives. But it would be awesome to have something similar to Filezilla that allowed SSH/SCP connections also (not just FTP).

I apologize, SSH/SCP support is already included in FileZilla, sorry for the bonehead post

Portable WinSCP

Actually, the thing I don't like about FileZilla's SFTP connectivity is that, as far as I can tell, you can't connect to an SFTP server via quick connect. You must store the connection as a profile.

On the other hand, WinSCP is already available as a stand-alone executable, and can be configured to operate from a USB flash drive. It will let you quick connect without having to store the profile.

When you run it, go to Preferences. Beside "Other general options," click the "Preferences" button. Go to Storage. Change "Configuration Storage" to "INI file." Next to "Other" change the random seed file to read simply "winscp.RND" with no directories preceding it.

I think that's all that's required. *shrug* Please correct me if I've left anything out.

Portable WinSCP Please!

There is an app called WinSCP (http://winscp.net/eng/index.php)
Its open source. Its stand alone. Its great. Its portable - almost!
Saved Sessions get stuck in... not sure. Registry or Application Settings.
Can this be ported so it stores the sessions in the local folder?
Thanks!

Quote:
WinSCP has passed U3 certification and is available for download on U3 Software Central.

You know, if you edit the preferences it saves the sessions in a local INI!

Sorry for the useless post. Check out the software!!
*yitzle runs off to grab his stuff as a local INI from registry*

GPL Violation

Too bad their U3 package violates the GPL. It looks like someone in the forums already let them know. Since U3's utilities are closed source/proprietary, you can't use them to package most open source apps (it's illegal).

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

There is a portable version

There is a portable version of WinSCP (I have it on my other U3 stick!) and I also would like a portable version (that shows up in the menu) of Putty !

Already portable

Just stick the program EXE on your USB thumb drive and off you go.

I think it sticks settings in the registry, other than that it should be completely usable.

Signature automatically removed for being too awesome.
