Application: CADEMIA

Category: Graphics & Pictures

About:

CADEMIA is an Open Source CAD system with features including graphical/drawing attributes conforming to standards, flexible input, macro management, associative dimensioning and more.

The portable package will utilize portablized Java if placed in the PortableApps\CommonFiles directory via the Java Portablizer. If that doesn't exist it will use locally installed Java.

Download:

Notes:

Development Test 2 (2008-03-07):

  • Updated files to newest PAF spec
  • Integrated DevTest splash graphic into App\Cademia\cademia.jar in place of the Cademia splash (cib\cad\img\cademia_splash.gif) and removed it from the launcher
  • Removed DisableIntelligentStart since no fixes run to disable anyway
  • Moved Plugins to Settings directory and move them back and forth between Settings and Program directories on launch now instead of keeping two copies around. This simplified the launcher quite a bit (no more settings ini or PLUGINSDIRECTORY).
  • Added check for local JRE in registry if portablized java is not found

Development Test 1 (2008-02-02):

  • initial release

Error Message

I installed this version of Cademia over the previous one installed on my FlashDrive and, when launching it, received the following error message:
Path=c:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe
Clicking "OK" opened up a Command Window with the path in the Command Window being;
G:\PortableApps\Cademia\App\Cademia>
but no "launch" on Cademia.
Executing Cademia.exe "manually" from the command line brings up Cademia with the following error message -
"Plugin 'G:\PortableApps\CADEMIAPortable\App\Cademia/plugins/CADEMIA_HELP_1.0/help.cademia_plugin' does not exist!"
It looks like you need to add the cademia.exe to the launch command and insert the help plugin.

Also, when I attempted to load an AutoCad drawing I got the following message:
java.io.StreamCorruptedException: invalid stream header: 41433130

I don't believe that I had this problem with the earlier version of Cademia.
Hope these findings help.

Oops..

Sorry about that. Somehow the wrong file got uploaded, that was an earlier test. I re-uploaded, give that a try. As for the autocad files.. I believe you have to use 'file->import dxf' to open those.

Development Test 2

Rayven:
I downloaded DevTest 2 and will try it out today. You're probably correct about the dxf file - I must have just tried a "File Open" instead of an import.

Update - I loaded and ran Development Test 2 and it looks fine and stable. None of the problems I reported earlier. It imported the DXF file without a problem I was able to manipulate the drawing fairly easily.
I think that folks who are not familiar with AutoCAD and its commands may have some problems using CADEMIA but that's not a Portability issue its a user manual issue.

Using portable Java

I can't get this to run my portable version of Java. I have dropbox, which is an online storage application, and the folders gets put into "My Documents". Maybe it's seeing the launch from the C:\ and automatically using the non-portable version of Java, but I don't have a computer without Java to test it on.

I believe I setup portable Java correctly. I installed the .exe of Java Portablizer to PortableApps\CommonFiles\JavaPortablizer and I can see all of the runtime files under the \bin\ and \lib\ folders.

The the Java Portablizer

The the Java Portablizer link seems to be gone or wrong Sad
