Development Test 1 (2008-03-04): Initial release

I think this should be the last release before I submit it as finished. Unless of course I'm forgetting something then feel free to yell at me for being stupid :).

The App

link have typos... I couldn't locate the original app... Sad

If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port,
and the bus is interrupted as a very last resort,
and the address of the memory makes your floppy disk abort,
then the socket packet pocket has an error to report Biggrin

It's worked for me. I'll check it out.

Edit: I think it's working fine now.

Nice Start / Few Things

Nice start Smile Looks like a fun game. But there are a few issues:

  • It's missing the help files (add them in even for dev tests... you have to do them sooner or later, do em early and have people double check them)
  • Splash screens don't fade anymore (short and sweet)
  • Your name is still in the default settings

I made a better quality icon for you here:
https://portableapps.com/temp/twinddistress.ico

And I fixed the base app's URL in your post Smile

Couple questions?

What kind of help files do I need? What do you want the splash to do? Should I just copy it from firefox 2.12? I'll fix the default settings. Thanks for the icon and fixing the URL.

Dealbreaker: Non-Data in Data

I finally took a better look and you an issue: non-data in the Data directory. The Data directory is only for data files (settings files, high score lists, etc). *Nothing* that is part of the application should exist outside of the App directory. So, basically, everything needs to be moved back to the App directory and you need to move the options.dat back and forth to Data on start and exit. Check out the Jooleem launcher and what it does with the highscore file to see what I mean.

I'm stealing Patrick's job.

Anyway, here's the teeny stuff that Patrick usually rats me out with :P.

  • Add a Readme.txt under /app, with the text:

The files in this directory are necessary for Twind Distress Portable to function. There is normally no need to directly access or alter any of the files within these directories.
  • The /Twind Distress dir should be lowercase
  • There's no appinfo.ini
  • Why are all the DLL's, WAV's, OGG's, and PNG's under /Data?
  • AUTHORS.txt, COPYING.txt, CREDITS.txt, and README.txt go in the app dir.
  • You need a readme.txt about the launcher.
  • Change the copyright in the source file to PortableApps.com and Contributors.
  • Optional:Add comments, make it easier to edit.
  • Get rid of the Pre-Install code, that pre-install code is for sumatraPDF.
  • Don't get it to include the Data folder, if you need the settings to already be there, copy from defaultdata if there's nothing under data.
  • Change the FILENAME def to Appname_Portable_LocalVersion#_Develoment_Test_DevTest#-en-us
That's it, good job, I like the game (though I stink at it :P)

That's the Spirit

But:

The /Twind Distress dir should be lowercase

I really don't care either way anymore. Most are caps, however there should be no space in the directory name.

Update

You need to update your forum title, download link title, download link, filename and release notes whenever you do a revision.
