Why does only installing English install multilingual AWT?

Submitted by sylikc on April 7, 2008 - 7:09pm

Hi, I was wondering why the AbiWordPortable release 2.6.2 for an English only install has template files (AWT) that are in other languages?

I'm not a very big AbiWord user so I don't know if it's safe to remove those or should they be included, but there's a bunch of template files in

\PortableApps\AbiWordPortable\App\AbiSuite2\templates

that look like normal.awt-XX_YY where the XX/YY's are language codes. Are those necessary for an english-only install? Although they sum up to be only a few K, having a FAT-formatted flash drive, it takes up nearly 2MB of space! Once again, not a whole not, but just curious if the extra wear & tear is necessary.

Thanks,

Left in for now

They're left in the English install for now as it made the installer simpler. It's 60 files that take up 108k (240k on a FAT32 formatted 1GB drive).

cool

Thanks, I guess that's cool then. After writing my first app I'd say whatever makes life easier on ya. ;)

I wonder if I should format my flash drive to FAT32. It's currently a 4GB formatted as FAT. So those 60 files turn out to be

Size: 108 KB (110,877 bytes)
Size on disk: 1.87 MB (1,966,080 bytes)

Ouch

In that case, I'd say yes.
