Q: distributing freeware apps

i understand why we can't post most freeware apps here, because their license makes it illegal to modify them. but why can't we post freeware apps that have more flexible licenses to allow repackaging? the only reason we don't have official freeware apps is because of hosting, so if we have our own hosting, then we should be able to post them on the forums.

That's because the launcher is GPL

and that license bans repackaging w/ freeware stuff.
My idea for freeware apps is to have the user put the base app installer somewhere, then have the portable installer extract the files from it and move them into the App dir. But that only works on some.

Insert original signature here with Greasemonkey Script.

Repackaging with is ok. Just

Repackaging with is ok. Just not repackaging in. The problem is that is the rule. Sad Also the PortableApps.com installer can't be used.

Wait a sec,

I thought there were quite a few launchers that use the installer. (Ex: PJ64)
