Installer free space calculation wrong?

Could it be that the installer doesn't calculate the free space properly?

I have 168 MB free on my 2gb drive and the old OOO folder is 227mb. The new 2.4 installer says it needs 240.4mb of free space (german version). But as its overwriting a lot of the old OOO files, it should work anyhow but the installer wont let me install because it says it needs 240 mb and I only have 168mb.

Shouldn't it work?
Or am I understanding something wrong?

You're Right

You're right. It doesn't account if the program is already installed. John: Do you have a solution for this?

Should still work

It should still work. The space needed is automatic but the ability to install it should still be there as there's a second manual calculation behind the scenes that allows you to upgrade when space is low.

Not For Me

It doesn't seem to be working for me. I tried the same situation as Simeon, no luck.

Still Doesn't Work!

Hate to open a thread that's 3 months old but I finally got around to updating OpenOffice to 2.4.1 on a spare 1 GB drive, with 164 MB of free space (the 82.3 MB download was in the drive) and like Simeon said, the installer didn't allow me to proceed, because the Install button was greyed out! Had to delete the previously installed OpenOffice folder (248.6 MB) in order to install the new version.

I also have a 4 GB drive, with 2.9 GB of free space, and of course, there was no problem updating OpenOffice with so much unused space.

On another note, the Java Portabilizer works like a charm, however, my locally installed JRE 1.6.07 version adds a huge 114 MB file size to the 1 GB drive! Just a word of caution to those using smaller drives.

There is a

newer post about this problem. The new Filezilla release already has the new installer and it should be fixed with the next release of Open Office..

I Thought

I had recently seen and read about this being worked on but couldn't find it anywhere in the OpenOffice forum. Duh! It was in the Portable App Development forum. Sorry for the duplicate post. Thank You Simeon for pointing me in the right direction!
