VirtualDub, already on this site, does video capturing
Which most recipients can't see without a codec (the other program can also record .wmv, .flv, .asf .mpg, .3gp, .mp4, .mov, etc.). Plus in VirtualDub it's just another feature instead of the focus of the program.
Someone started a CamStudio Portable, but it doesn't appear to be available anymore.
If it looks like something people might be interested in, I could look into it.
I have made a portable myself since I find this software very useful...
