ClamWin: Can't fix adaware/virus?

Is there a way too wipe out viruses and not just scan them?
If not, then thats 125 mb wasted on my usb drive.

Yes, but use with

Yes, but use with caution!!!

Launch CWP

Click Tools-Preferences

On the General Tab
under Infected Files
choose:
Remove (Use Carefully)
or
Quarantine

be aware that ClamAV has a very high False Positive rate.
Be sure you are infected before you allow it to delete files.

Do this at your own risk

BTW CWP currently only takes up 24MB Smile

What do you mean a high

What do you mean a high false positive rate?

Also, mine is 125 mb after taking forever to download the database...

125 mb???

You should try a fresh install, not update.

125 MB is just wrong. I don't know how that could have happened.
My entire CWP directory is just under 24MB.

Current main.cvd is 12MB
Current daily.cld is 3MB

"What do you mean a high ?"
More than most others.

ClamAV database updates several times a day.
There is no way they can test it against every possible software that could be on your machine each time they update.
False Positives happen with all AntiMalware products.
The more often they update the more likely the chance of something slipping in that is an error.

"Cutting Edge" can also mean "Bleeding Edge".
If you don't know for a fact you are infected, don't delete.

This is different than just deleting a file which you have just downloaded and scanned. If you delete it before you are infected there is no problem.

Clam is intended to identify infected files before they are run.
It is not really intended to clean an infected system, which is much more complicated.

This is why I have so much

This is why I have so much space taken.

I have 5 folders like this one, "clamav-012c5869b25461c4261a275241824ff6.00000e0c.clamtmp"
a couple are like 17-27 mb while some are like 3 mb, equals to be 71 megabytes.

They look like temporary files(probably when it wouldn't update...) so should I just delete those?

Oh, and thanks for the reply, helped me understand it a bit more.

Your Welcome

Your Welcome Smile

"should I just delete those?"
Yes, you should delete them.

"probably when it wouldn't update.."
Yes, you are probably right, I've seen similar things before.
