Notepad++ Portable 4.9 menu bugSubmitted by EdgesofTwilight on May 4, 2008 - 12:08pm
Anyone have a problem with the new 4.9 version of Notepad++ Portable? I installed the new version as a fresh install and the File menu is not there. I can get the menus to appear if I right click on the windows title bar, but I can not use the menu. I am running this on XP, anyone else have this problem? Thanks, Chris ( categories: )

Actually the menus are hidden
I have used it on vista and I noticed the same thing. I was reading the release notes from the notepad ++ sourceforge page and I found the menus are hidden by default. They can be turned on by pressing the F10 button.
Hidden by default?
That's an odd design decision for what's supposed to be a programmer's tool (i.e. advanced users who want instant access to all features)? I suspect this is just going to confuse a whole bunch of people...
I agree
I agree, it will probably cause confusion.
Although, I noticed that the Notepad++ developers have actually just posted version 4.9.1 earlier this morning and the hidden menu feature appears to gone because the menu is visible and F10 doesn't hide it.
how was it hidden ...
as I was looking at my version, and it is the 4.9, and all my menu options was displayed at top like it always was.
Don't be an uberPr∅. They are stinky.
Upgrade
With upgrades, it stays there. With new installs, it's hidden by default.
Live with purpose.
ahhh ....
that would be the case then. Cool beans then, I'll install the newer version now.

Haha, "IE7-style menu"
That's what the release notes call it, and it's actually really funny. Hiding the menus by default works in IE7 because almost everything (if not actually everything) in the menus is accessible from the toolbar. Which is definitely not the case for Notepad++!
I know
It's a default in the new version.
... and an *exceedingly* bad idea from a usability perspective.
Live with purpose.
How do you unhide the menu
How do you unhide the menu then?
Thanks,
Chris
