Fixed issue where backup would only be made on first launch if Ares folder already existed on computer.

Does anyone know what environmental variable Ares uses?? I have been looking through the source code but I do not know what I am looking for. Ares stores its data in "%UserProfile%\Local settings\Application Data\Ares"

May Not
It may not use an environment variable at all, try APPDATA or USERPROFILE, if neither work, then you're out of luck.
It's kinda sad when my desktop is messier than my room.

I used both of those and when I use USERPROFILE, it doesnt put the data in the settings folder, but it moves it to the %HOME%\Ares which is weird. idk this is the only thing stopping me from releasing it. I can always use the USERPROFILE then just use a few Renames to get it to the settings folder.

it's probably using a
it's probably using a windows API call and the api call has the env var userprofile in it. i don't know why you would redirect the files to home only to move them back and forth, why not just move the files back and forth to appdata?

I just went ahead and posted this, there is no problems with the registry, just the settings. So any help fixing this would be appreciated. Hope you like. :smile:

what variable does NSIS use for %USERPROFILE%?? cause I am unsure of what it is.

K I got it now, it was $LOCALAPPDATA which makes sense. I should get a new release out which will take care of the data I just need to do a few test with it to make sure it works properly.

Read above for changes, hope this helps those of you out who use this program, because now that the settings issue has been fixed, you should now be able to comfortably use this program without traces being left behind. Hope you like it. :smile:

Ha new update, Cant believe I didnt catch the problem mentioned above. Please use this one because any files that you may have downloaded from a locally installed Ares will be overwritten and you may lose any files you have downloaded.

Well I have just discovered that Ares leaves a few keys in "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes" so since I do not believe that any settings are stored in there except if things are torrents, and a few other things, do you think it would be ok to just put in the script to just delete them??

ummm ok..... Not sure if ur tryin to insult me or wat, but if Ares had problems or anything, or if u wanted to improve it you should have posted what was wrong here. I havent really even looked into Ares portable since the last release because nobody posted any problems. So ill check out you "no flaws 100% portable" Ares and see what you improved and make a new one based off of the one you gave a link to. :)
