CompareChecksum 1.0.1.0 DevTest 1

Submitted by Schdefoon on June 4, 2008 - 4:54pm

Application: CompareChecksum
Category: Utilities
Description: With CompareChecksum you can calculate checksums of files. Calculation starts automatically, if you select a file per dialog or if you drag and drop a file on the software-window.
By comparing the checksums of two files, you can determine, that a download via internet was not corrupted. At the same time you can check if the file was possibly targetted by a manipulation.
Besides, you can control, if pictures or documents with different names, have identical content.

I like "winMD5Sum Portable" very much, but I missed the ability to check SHA1...

The Installation-Wizard is only for people who want to use the file on a desktop-computer and like to have a desktop-icon or a startmenu folder. Leave all options unchecked, to get only the basic file.
You also can extract the CompareChecksum.exe from CompareChecksumWizard.exe by using 7-zip or Winrar.

Please excuse my bad english...

Oh, and Welcome to PortableApps.com :-)

"The wheels of John grind Slowly, But they grind Exceedingly Small" ;-)

It is Freeware

I used, as described in the "Info" window of CompareChecksum, Delphi Encryption Compendium by Hagen Reddmann. The Units I used (Part I) are Freeware.
The rest of the Code is written by myself and is free, too.

(Thanks for the welcome)

-_-

just because it's free does not mean it's open source. (Otherwise we'd probably have Spybot Search and Destroy and Internet Explorer here) Open source means that it can be redistributed and modified. If this is not open source, than it's illegal. Please contact the author to check the lisencing. Untill then, please remove your portable version from the site. Oh, and dont let this discorage you. there are plenty of other apps you can portify. (Or just put in PAF format if they are already portable, as we do with some of our apps)

Read more carefully.

He wrote part of it.

Somebody give me a portable video editor... Please!
If ya wanna see my email, go to digitxpsemail.tk (at least for now!)
My dad saved over $850 a month, by switching to Geico! :P

I'm glad you want to contribute and all,

but um...
We use NSIS installers, not zips. Zip files don't qualify for development tests...

Lighten up a bit, the guy

Lighten up a bit, the guy just joined, and was greeted with criticism from both you and Stevo. There are much nicer ways of saying what both of you just said, and those won't scare new users away.

I said, "dont let this discourage you"

I tried to be as nice as possible. I was trying to make a point.

I think

I did it better than LOGAN did

Welcome to PortableApps.com :)

Thanks for this utility, however, this site currently only allows open source applications to be promoted. Also, we write an external launcher for the apps we port using the NSIS scripting language. These launchers handle moving/backing up any local settings that may exist, moving the portable settings into place, then saving the portable settings and restoring the local settings on close. There is a strict format that all of our applications follow as well.

If you release the source code for your application, we would be willing to help you get things in order to have this possibly become an official PortableApps.com application. If you do not release the source, we can help you learn NSIS, describe the PortableApps.com Format to you, and allow you to release the launcher only, and then provide the users with a download link for the base application.

I think, I understand

Hello,

I'm sorry for messing up the things a little bit.
To create the launcher should be no problem. The problem is to prove, that the Units are open source. Unfortunately the term "open source" is not as often used in germany than in the US. So if sombody here is good in german, here is a link to the copyright-informations: http://www.michael-puff.de/Developer/Delphi/Importe/Hagen_Reddmann/DEC_5...
(quote: Part I is furthermore Freeware with sources)
I only used Part I of the packet. Because the content are units which are used to create software, I believe they are intended to be used for - at least - noncommercial software.
But, to get the prove, I will try to contact the author, of course.

Ok, its fine

Thats ok. (In fact, someone once posted a full version of a portable version of Halo) If it is not open source, you could always provide the launcher without the app.

Make sure that you and others

Make sure that you and others use paf.exe installers, compatible launchers and preferably Open Source.
