Open Source Java Virtual Machine?

There are many great open source apps written in Java and we're currently avoiding them because of the Java Portablizing.

So i know Java has been open source for a little while now. I know there were issues with some components of it still being closed source but from what i've seen they're referring to the JDK. Is this the same for JRE? and if it is still unusable by us maybe we can use an alternative. there are many open source jvm projects so i don't really know them all. Kaffe is a small and portable open source Java Virtual Machine. there are instructions for compiling it on windows with cygwin. of course i've never used any other java machines so i don't know if they're bug-free or not. still i think the ability have Java apps without using a Java Portablizer would be a breakthrough for us.

Hmm

I'm not even close to an expert on environments like Java, but it sounds plausible to me. I really like this idea. Smile
