Portable apps security IssuesSubmitted by xauen10 on July 9, 2008 - 6:25am
Hi just want to ask if portable apps people are thinking about the security of the software. I mean just look at PrayayaV3 and it has a log-in window which restricts access. Can some people add this security features to PortableApps. That would be great.. ( categories: )

Sorry, no.
Unlike Prayaya our platform does not use hooks but simple scripts to trap the settings.
If you'd like, you can use TrueCrypt to encrypt your drive. The downside is that it requires administrator rights.
Security is built into most apps you would need security, like how you can password protect FireFox and there's a master password to KeePass. And in OpenOffice you can password protect documents and the like. IMO, the built in security for the applications is good enough.

Spam. Prayaya = Insecure and Illegal
Actually, I'm thinking this is spam.
These Prayaya folks have been spamming like crazy on this forum, wikipedia (from which their entry was banned) and every other USB and portable software forum. Not to mention the fact that they're illegally repackaging software in the first place without permission (violating copyright law, trademark law, the GPL, the LGPL, etc). And attempting to rip of U3's marketing (they call it "V3 smart". nice, huh?).
Not to mention the fact that Prayaya's... ehem... security isn't. At all. All the Prayaya "security" does is prevent you from launching their menu. That's it. It doesn't protect your files or application data. It doesn't even hide them. And they pass it off as "security". Nice.
So, unless the original author responds explaining that he's not a spammer and in no way connected with Prayaya (at which point I still have to check his IP addresses and compare them to the other Prayaya spammers), I'm going to kill this topic and ban the user.

Hey, I'm just curious and just asking a question. If you would like to answer then great but if not, I would be ok. I was just asking. Im an avid portableapps user and it is what I use in my portable device. My friend uses Prayaya thats why I asked. I just want to help and give my suggestions to PApps here. I just want to contribute. Whats wrong with that?

I know that most PA.com people are not from American, but most of them took the time to learn English (even IF english is one of the most demeaning languages in the world...)

if you want a password before
if you want a password before accessing the menu, whilst protecting the data and apps, download the password tool that comes with most flash drives. And if you want, make an autorun.inf that starts the unlock tool.
In the private part of the drive put portable apps. Voula, you're done.
