Updating possible?

I was once presented an update rom inside firefox portable which i acepted, and after it was completed i selected restart firefox.

It restated with a new non portable version with no addons and bookmarks and made it my deafult browser.

My portable editin along with my customizations still exists but i have to un it manually plus when i select to associate it as default i get "Firefox is already your default browser" but by that it refers to that standalone version that made its way to my computer.

Well not sure if it's standalone cause it doesn appear to be on the start menu or anything but t is new with no addons and nothing.

Don't Set As Default

No portable software should be set as the default within the software itself. This has never been supported or recommended. It sets the standard copy of the software inside the portable version as the default, using the local PC settings instead of the portable ones.

You should only start Firefox Portable by running FirefoxPortable.exe. Never by setting it as default and double-clicking an HTML document in Windows Explorer.

Y is that so?It seemed to be working fine before the update?By the way i never had a standalone version,i only run it portable so what happened?Did it create a new profile that set as default?

By the way Thunderbird behaves the same now.

I have set it as default so i can open mailto links directly in there but now when i clicked on a mailto link it opened a new instance of Thunderbird and brought up the new account wizard.

What's happening?

Never set as default

When you set Thunderbird, Sunbird, Firefox, etc as default, they run like a standalone version. It's the equivalent of running firefox.exe directly. Which means it stores you profile in C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox. This has always been the case. I don't know what you were seeing before. But setting as default has never been supported or recommended.

It is possible that with some of the apps if you've already started them (the correct way from the PortableApps.com Menu) and have them set as default they will automatically use the portable instance already running.
