The use of an .exe package

The use of an .exe package for a theme really should be avoided Sad

As I saw no "finials" in your preview Blum I am thinking you meant "final" and have edited your topic subject accordingly Smile

Tim

Things have got to get better, they can't get worse, or can they?

I agree 100%

I agree and have expressed that view a few times already. A self-installing exe file is automatically suspect.

At best, the user leaves himself open to the author's idea of a "correct" installation. And the user has to completely trust the author with their own data and their own installed platform. Hopefully the user's directory structure matches what the author is forcing.

That's a level of trust that is far, far, far beyond anything I want to give ANYBODY.

Oh, and what about the menu mod link? Why point to a put-together exe file that is hosted on a file sharing site? Why not point to the conventionally accepted OFFICIAL menu mod download sites?

As I promised,

Ok. Sorry it took me so long to post. I've been extremely busy this past little while. So busy I haven't been using Portable Apps! Smile

I've come up with quite a few suggestions (even though this is a very excellent theme). Feel free to use or not use any or all of them. Also, don't give me any credit. It's your theme, after all. All of the changes are included in this zip file:
http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=3714dac6678d2e8ed2db6fb9a8902bda

  • The close button. Not all people have used an iPhone, so I think it might be a good idea to put a little X on the button. I used a text "x" and rasterized it in Inkscape. Doesn't look too bad.
  • Eject.bmp in the {THEME} directory can be deleted, as it is never used. That save about 43KB.
  • Remove extra transparency on the sides and top in Background_Top.bmp. They don't need to be there, and that makes it so the menu is smack against the sides of the screen. Do a bit of re-configuring in the theme.ini to properly align the buttons and form.
  • In the CustomButton Eject, remove the line "icon=IconTheme\Search.ico", since you are using the search button icon for the eject button.
  • Clean up base image. It looks like you've sent the image through paint's horrible JPEG filter, providing a lot of color smearing and such. I cleaned up the image quite a bit for you. It is most noticable on the background.
  • Sharpen the image. I did a sharpen (using GIMP) on the image which made some more of the gross JPEG stuff go away. (Mostly noticable if you look closely.)
  • On Background.jpg, I saved it (after making it all white) with a JPEG quality of 0, which reduced the file size.
  • I moved the drive space slider and drive name up to the top of the iPhone screen so it looks more like the battery power, time, status, etc.
  • Make sure those pesky "thumbs.db" files don't get included. In Folder Options under the view tab, you can make sure "Do not cache thumbnails" is checked. Then temporarily have it show system files and delete existing .db files. Then make sure you have it hide system files.
  • Did you notice the little "mesh-like" thing at the bottom of the screen with the name of the app whose icon was above it? I added that. Doesn't look quite like it, but it still looks good.

Well, that's all for now. I'm not the best at graphics, but I hope this helps. Thanks for creating this wonderful theme.
Regards,
Bobert
