Getting it into the menu (SOLVED) Update to follow

If an application is already portable (GreatNews) and running on a thumb drive, how hard or easy is it to get a single icon or link on the PortableApps Menu. I created a directory below PortableApps called "GN Portable" and moved the entire GreatNews tree into that folder. Three (3) new links appeared, I assume because, there are three (3) EXE files in the base folder of Great News.

Can I hide the other two? or is there another way?

TJ

UPDATE 11 SEP 08: I succeeded in doing what I wanted. I will follow up with a detailed resolution this evening. Thanks for the help.

You need to follow the proper

You need to follow the proper PortableApps guidelines to be compliant so settings are backed up, etc.

To answer you question more directly, where you have the application right now may work, but it's not the correct place. To get one icon to show up in the menu you'd have a single exe launcher program to launch everything, save settings, etc.

\PortableApps\GreatNewsPortable\App\GreatNews\

is the "correct" place.

Yes

As BuddhaChu said, you have to have a single exe in the \PortableApps\GreatNewsPortable\ folder if you want only one to show.
If you know a programming language, you could write a little shortcut to lauch the actual program in a deeper folder. If you don't, you can either use one of the modifications of the official menu. Some of them allow you to hide exes. Or you'd have to wait till the next version of the menu comes out.

But you dont have to follow the PortableApps.com guidelines to do just that. They are only required if you want the App to become official or if you want the convenience of the backup tool built into the Platform.

Oh and welcom here Smile
