Renaming entries in the PA menu

Hi,

One feature I would really love is being able to rename entries in the PA menu (at least application names)

Thanks!

I guess you didn't check?

This is a frequently asked question and has been answered many, many times.

Renaming applications is not a current feature of the official PortableApps.com Menu, but is planned for some future (unknown) date.

The PortableApps.com Menu is open source and several people have modified the existing code to include frequently requested features, such as renaming apps. Since these modifications are unofficial forks of the official PortableApps.com Menu, they are not officially supported by PortableApps.com.

Some say that the official PortableApps.com Menu will eventually incorporate the much-requested features and enhancements currently addressed in the unoffical menus. I would certainly like to see that.

One of the more popular of these modifications is the R34 Mod Menu. It is the 34th modification of the original source code since the original official PortableApps.com Menu was released.

You can find tutorials about features, installation, use, and tweaking of the R34 Mod Menu at:

Thanks guys, but I'm already

Thanks guys, but I'm already a heavy user of official PA and I don't think I'd like to restart everything with a PA fork... unless, it was possible to convert current PA to the fork without loosing anything (doubt it)

I still hope such a feature makes it into official PA though Smile

So ,

if you use R34 getting back your Personal Picture is no magic.Can be done within some minutes, though John´s solution is much better, I admit
Steps:
-carefully read the tutorial on R34 http://ptc.kain-planet.de/tutorials.php
-goto themes folder and make a backup of your theme.ini
-open theme.ini with notepad or else
-add the code for a custom image (menu frame as usual W406 x H573)in usual position

[CustomImages]
0=IMG_PP

[IMG_PP]
Height=50
Width=48
Left=349
Top=8
Path=IconTheme\personal_picture.ico

The number depends on the theme you use, there could be already some custom images, adapt the image number to your needs
- put a picture named personal_picture.ico or a bmp or a jpeg into the regular icontheme folder or create new one next to the theme.ini
-adapt the path to your pic

save, restart the menu, when you´ve followed the steps correctly, you should see your personal pic on the right position - if not, then Mod will start with default theme.
To reverse all efforts/ changes copy back your theme.ini backup...
