Client-side anti spam agentmlun - November 17, 2008 - 4:37am
Can anyone recommend a (free) Client-side anti spam agent for TB-Portable? Unfortunately I cannot install software server-side. I will do this as I suspect TB's own junk filter is causing problems in my setup, so would like to try an alternative. ( categories: )

None Really
The only good client-side anti-spam filters are actually installed as a server on the local PC in Thunderbird's case(see below). Nearly all client-side spam filters are awful. Your best bet is to get an email provider with spam filtering that works right. It should use a combination of RBLs (Realtime Blackhole Lists) like Spamhaus' lists as well as a learning bayesian filter.* Check that. It seems that SpamBayes (one of the better spam filters) now has a Thunderbird plugin. You can find it here:

I have not used it and can't speak to it. For support issues, you'll need to get in touch with them.
I still recommend server-side spam filtering first. Any email provider without solid server-side spam filtering should be abandoned.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
