Pidgin (2.5.2) IRC not working!!!

Submitted by XSLord on December 3, 2008 - 6:51am

When adding an IRC account i get the following error message:

"IRC nicks may not contain whitespace"

Which is strange cause i have no white spaces in. After doing some googling i found an old ticked about this issue (http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/6373)

I then decided to install a normal version of Pidgin, create an IRC account, and it enabled without any problem.

Now i whent back to the portable version, and what is suspected occured: the IRC account was now working properly, without the nasty message!

Meanwhile i have uninstalled the normal version (including GTK) and IRC on the portable version is still working correctly.

Does anyone has a good sensible explantion about the above?

maybe it was the irc server

Maybe the irc server was down or maybe you had a whitespace inside the server string like the guy in the link you supplied.

If it was neither of those all I could say is maybe it was just a connection error that randomly happens.

That's a Rather Big Sig

Allo RottNKorpse (mmm, appealing Eye-wink) Your signature is like 9 lines long and I just wanted to ask that you please shorten it. Perhaps throwing all the OS stuff on one line? Signatures are just a little extra, and we don't want it taking over the content.

Or something like that. Thanks!

Me too

I am trying to use IRC with SSL on pidgin as I use a public wifi network, and I get the same whitespace error. I have been trying to do this for 2 days and still no luck. There are no spaces, nor is the network down.
