Using portable thunderbird in a public library PC

barryoor - May 7, 2006 - 9:35am

Hi Everyone,
I have been following this portable apps development with great interest as it ideally suits me. I do have my own laptop but without internet access.I can use the internet from the library.
The problem is I think the library PCs do not allow portable thunderbird to access the mails via POP3 protocol. IS there a way to get my mails into my flash from the library computer. Every time when i try it says your connection timed out and nothing happens.
Cud any one help me out please?
on the other hand yahoo messenger works fine from portable GAIM
I am desperate to get an answer and would be very grateful if any one helps me out.
Thanks in advance

Barry

Alt port

Some mail providers make an alternate mail port available for situations like this. You'd need to ask them.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Further clarification needed!

Dear John,
Do you mean I have to ask Gmail for an alternate mail port? I do not find any listed for Thunderbird apart from 995 and 587 for pop and smtp respectively.
please clarify.
Alternatively is there a way to transfer the mail manually from Gmail to Thunderbird, I mean with the dates and all so that it satys in my flash? I am a bit naive about these so plz excuse me for asking.
Thanks

barry

Yes

You gotta ask your mail provider.

Chances are, you simply won't be able to use this at your library as they are purposely preventing anyone from checking mail.

Is there any chance to use

Is there any chance to use this program (I don't know if it possible to run from the USB device, I just test the prog. from my HD).

I have no idea if there any plugin that works like this program.

What do you think?

Free SMTP Server

Thanks for the effort but doesn't work!!

Hi fdisk,

I checked out your program too! A good one but doesn't work from my firewalled library PC.

Looks like I have to manually cut and paste mail in the text form into my flash drive.
