Windows can't find it....

I wonder if someone could help me. I have openoffice 3 on a laptop running windows XP. The software runs OK But I can't seem to start it up by double-clicking a document (which I used to be able to do). Furthermore, if I right-click and select "choose program to open with" (or whatever the wording is) OO doesn't appear on the list. I can navigate to the folder (under AppsPortable in my root C drive) but can't selectt the program. I can drag documents onto a shortcut on the desktop and they will open, but this is tedious, I want to be able to simply double click as I used to. Any ideas?

(It's not just because the app is portable; I also have portable GIMP and this shows up on the "choose program" list...)

Thanks for any suggestions,
/Gary

Thats intentional

Portable Apps are designed to be portable, i.e. not to leave any personal traces on the PC you use them with and ergo they don't show up in any lists. And because they are on an USB drive, the PC doesn't "know" they exist and so he cant use them to open a document if you double click it.

Thanks for your reply; I hear

Thanks for your reply; I hear what you're saying. However, the app in this case is not on a usb drive, it's on my C drive. If I choose "Open program with" then navigate to the folder and select the appropriate .exe file, I would expect that to work and open the program - but it doesn't seem to. As for portable apps not appearing on any lists, this is not absolutely the case, as GIMP portable DOES appear on that list. That being so, I see no reason why OO should not also appear....

GIMP

shouldnt be on that list. None of the Apps here should. Thats why OO isnt there. I guess something went wrong with Gimp...

This is indeed intended

This is indeed intended behavior.
However, there is a application (portable, ofcourse) available which will do what you want, CAFE.

I haven't tried it out myself, but it looks like that is what you need/want.
Please note though, that it is still in beta and thus might have (probably has) bugs. Use at your own risk Wink That being said, its in the 5th beta already so I assume most major bugs have already been fixed.
