Backup "Compression Level" is not respected when Format is 7-Zip

marioff - February 4, 2009 - 11:20am

Program: Toucan 2.0.4

Issue: Backup "Compression Level" is not respected when Format is 7-Zip.

All "Compression Level" above None yield the same compression result. The same set of files compressed with 7-Zip Portable using "Compression Level" with any settings above (not including) Fastest yield far better results.

"Compression Level" works just fine when Format is Zip.

I

cannot reproduce this issue, I just tried compressing a 241KB folder and got the following:

None - 243KB
Fast - 103KB
Default - 98KB
Ultra - 97KB

What OS are you running?

EDIT: I see what you mean about different sizes from 7Zip itself though, this is because Toucan does not use Solid Mode for compression so that the archive can be updated.

Could you increase both the

Could you increase both the dictionary and the word size settings? At least, when using ultra? The maximum dictionary size is 64MB and the maximum word size is 273. That makes a difference even without the solid option.

Any chance, you might add an option for solid file size? From 1MB-64Gb and solid? Perhaps, just an option to select if I want solid or not.
