pVLC 0.8.5 quits without warning

Vema - May 9, 2006 - 9:30am

Just installed pVLC. Great job Eye-wink
But how come it just quits?
I load a directory or playlist. It starts playing ok, plays whole media file (mp3 or mpg, doesn't matter) and then quits.
No warning, no error messages, just a sudden death.
I start vlc again, and same thing happens.
Sometimes it plays several files, sometimes quits after first file.

Os, etc

What OS, etc are you running on? And is there a specific type of media you're playing that it quits after or all of em?

I can't reproduce the problem with MP3s, MPGs, etc. Have you tried a local copy of VLC and see if the same system has the same issues? Have you tried it on other systems?

Details

Sorry, forgot the important things Eye-wink
Win XP Pro, Pentium about 2 GHz, 512 M ram.

I'm playing avi's, mpeg's, mp3's. All behave likewise.

On my home pc normal vlc works fine, haven't tried the protable version.

Versio 0.8.4 crashed also several times, so the real problem might be in this computer...must examine this system.

But it's not too difficult to start pVLC again, so I'm not gonna bother folks anymore. I'll just sit back and wait for next version Eye-wink

Try it at home

Try PVLC 085 at home and see how it works out. It sounds like it's your work PC that's the issue. Not sure what might be causing it, but check around the VLC forums and Google.

Found the solution

This is my work computer, and the problem went away when I closed some measuring programs.
So, seems there's nothing wrong with vlc.
Thanks anyway Eye-wink

I am having a somewhat

I am having a somewhat similar problem. I'll be playing a mix mp3 with PortableVLC and suddenly it stops in the middle of the mp3, and the file is no longer loaded.

Nevermind, I think I figured

Nevermind, I think I figured out what was happening, and it has nothing to do with VLC. I downloaded a few large mp3s from somewhere to my desktop, but my computer at work stores its profiles remotely, so apparantly it uploads everything from the desktop to the profile server when I log out, and back when I log in in the mornings, and the mp3s appear to have been cut short in that process.
