Hmmm,

it requires .NET Framework 2.0 and I found nothing about the license! Is it freeware or opensource?
Edit: Wow, an app with ad and it looks to me like self-promotion.
But welcome to PortableApps.com !

Mhm

That's right, MyMicroBalance needs .NET 2.0. Its a freeware, but not opensource. But I think if you start the installer a license is displayed, isn't it?

That's right #2, MyMicroBalance has an integrated ad box. We are looking for different ways to get a financial support, but it is like a donationware.

Self-promotion? I am the developer of MyMicroBalance. Since MMB is used by currently more than 150.000 users, many of them wrote me that they would like to have a PortableApps-Version. This way I would like to create a release like described here on the page to guarantee that everything works like it should work.

If that is not OK or if that is against the board rules, let me know.

Many Thanks!

Unfortunately, non-open

Unfortunately, non-open source software is currently against the forum rules. Our site has been saying freeware and commercial app support is coming soon, but we've heard "coming soon" for well over a year. Hopefully it actually does happen soon.

.NET is an issue as well, as not all PCs a user will encounter may have the framework installed. It's becoming increasingly more available on public computers (web cafes, libraries, etc...) but still isnt quite widespread enough.

Welcome to PortableApps.com, thanks for a preview of a seemingly great app, please try to find a way to remove the ad box, and unfortunately we'll have to ask that you remove your download link for now.

I understand

Hi ZachHudock!

Thank for your reply. I didn't know that it is only for opensource projects. But I can understand this and I will wait until freeware projects will be allowed. This way I have removed the links to my website since I would not use this board to promote mmb.

For me it is important to know if I am allowed to offer mmb as PortableApps version on my own website, so that I can fullfill the wishes of my users. Next to the download I will add a link to PortableApps. I will not use any PortableApps logos even it is not allowed.

Please let me know. Later on you also can delete this whole threat.

best wishes

Thanks!

Thank you for your co-operation.

Currently, the PortableApps.com™ branding is not allowed to be used except through PortableApps.com (just treat this one logically, there are no written instructions about it really except trademark law) and the PortableApps.com™ Installer is not allowed to be used on non-GPL apps other than through PortableApps.com, unless you can get permission from John T. Haller (as a couple of freeware providers have done). I suggest that you drop a line to the "Software and Hardware Partnerships, Distribution and Other Business" email address or phone number at the contact page, or probably better yet, just wait for what's promised. A version of the installer permitting use with freeware will be coming along soon. See here for reference. I believe that you should expect this version within the next month or two, but things can get delayed.

Thanks!

Hi Chris Morgan!

Thank you for your reply. That information you wrote will help me a lot. I can understand that the primarly focus of PortableApps is to support open source software. I will follow you hints and ask John T. Haller for a partnership. Smile

best wishes

One thing I would note is

One thing I would note is that .NET doesn't work well portably. I would recommend porting it to mono if you want it to be properly portable.
