What I would like to see in PAP 2.0![]() Submitted by rcmaeh01 on March 11, 2009 - 8:07pm
Here is some things I think should be included in the PAP 2.0: -Scale-able PAP option* -Multiple wallpaper swapper (in the options menu) -Sorting options (To sort by: name, usage, size, etc) -Update Checker item for the Apps you have installed* -Quicker App hiding -Option to set a Main app menu item for off-brand apps (for when the app folder has more than one .exe file)* -An "If found return to:" option* -PAP add-ons some above marked with * -Icon Packs* -App Discription Editor right click option (So you can have a quick summary of what the app does in case you forget) If you think PAP 2.0 should or shouldn't have any of the features I listed please tell me. Or add a reply if you have any features you think should also be added. ( categories: )

Wallpaper swapper we already
Wallpaper swapper we already have so live with that
App hiding is pretty quick as can be
for when the app folder has more than one .exe file just add in PortableApps.ini this line ShowSingleIconForMultiIconApps=true as outlined here
the updater will be included when it's out of beta
Icon backs I assume for the menu and not the applications for the menu I assume are already customizable
so far a lot of requests you have made are a pointless for they are 1) already implimented 2) already have plans to do so.
I'm trying to sound harsh but I'm just showing you whats already done

OK, I give up!
Let's just continue to list the possible features in random threads so that people are forced search for them and inevitably miss some if they don't follow the particular threads that they are posted in and waste our time answering the same questions again and again and again and again and again (and again) and get a bit miffed that they didn't already find their answers in the flawlessly intuitive search engine on this site and apologize for being harsh while welcoming them to PortableApps.com.
I'm down with that!

No worries, Zach
I think my post came off a bit rough too. Can I blame my lingering chest cold for making me touchy?

Wallpaper swapper we already
Yep, we already have all of that, but I guessing that he meant to ask all of this to be done without having to mess with the inners of the program. An user friendly approach, so even my boss could use.
It wold be great if we could do all these great stuff by clicking on a menu or accessing a setup window.
Alive and kicking!

This is....
I made this b/c i wanted to use what other people thought should be included in PAP 2.0. Even if it's already being made... or whatever(Trying not to sound mean), but thanks anyway.
K rather than make another
K rather than make another topic I thought I'd put my request here. Basically just in the options menu (or maybe an advanced options menu window that would open from the options menu rather than ending up with a really long menu like the MOD34) a choice between the full page scrolling that comes with 1.5 and the one app/line menu scrolling that came with 1.1.
I hope you take this up

Arrows
Just use the arrow keys on the keyboard to scroll single apps. Or the mouse wheel. Single app scrolling isn't terribly useful since it takes forever to get anywhere and you couldn't hold down the buttons (which made em pretty useless compared to the mouse wheel or keyboard, anyway).
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
>Duh< Sorry my bad. Was using
>Duh< Sorry my bad. Was using an old school mouse and can't currently check that the wheel still does the single app scrolling. Thanks for the fast response
If possible I would like to reiterate my suggestion for a window coing of the option menu for Advanced Options which basically is just the not everyday options. This would help keep the options menu compact and clean. What you think?

Windows
The 2.0 Final will have a familiar Options window divided into tabs. We may or may not add in some advanced options like how many lines to have things move.

It would be real handy to be
It would be real handy to be able to add/delete/change the folders and folder icons on the right hand side. I have a specific folder that I use quite a bit on my thumb drive, and it would be nice if I could add that to the list of folders.
Setting the overall menu height would be nice to either show all icons without scrolling or shorten to take out white space.
PAP size
The problem with that is, as I understand it, the theme (even the default one) is a single image that makes up the entire menu, with elements blanked out (such as the application list, maybe the buttons) to allow for certain dynamic changes (e.g. drive space, for a good example).
Where it needs to be IMHO is a large graphic that would include the top two-thirds, because we don't want to lose all the buttons; a medium graphic that would include the bottom quarter minus the very bottom, an optional section which includes the arrow, if the menu gets high enough; a small section for the bottom, and a single-line section which can be repeated as much as we need to make it as tall as we need.
So when it gets drawn on the screen, the bottom (drive space and exit button) gets drawn, then the top part. Then, if there's room, that optional bottom part with the arrow. If not, as many one-line sections as needed so the menu doesn't have to scroll, until all apps are shown or we hit the top of the screen, whichever comes first.
JTH says scalability is coming in a future release, so it will probably end up doing something like that.
'̿'\̵͇̿̿\з=(•̪●)=ε/̵͇̿̿/'̿'̿ ̿
about future menu scalability.
Obviously one can scroll up and down the programs list. I wonder when the advanced themes arrive, will there be a side to side scroll available to reveal longer program names that don't fit within the smaller themed windows.

Personally, I think that the
Personally, I think that the "Auto-refresh" on menu startup should be able to be disabled. On my large drives with lots of apps, when trying to startup the menu it takes up to a minute+ for it to scan all the folders. I think it would be a nice feature to be able to disable this and have it write to an xml or ini, sorta how PStart does it.
With this way, it can just read from the file and not have to scan the portableapps folder each startup, thus making startup faster. This also leaves the ability open to create backups of the settings.
Just a thought.

Agreed.
With lots of apps, start time is an issue. I know the codebase on geek.menu is old, but that is one feature I really appreciated with it - I could choose when to refresh app icons, folders, etc. and I didn't have to do it every startup.

Let me also throw my support
Let me also throw my support behind this idea. When demonstrating PA to other people, having them stand there for a minute (or two, literally) waiting for it to come up tends to really diminish their enthusiasm.
I think that adding an option
I think that adding an option to lock the drive with a password, that comes up when you plug it in would make for great security.
Good Idea
Good idea that FenixZero a password option would be a very good thing to have.
Great security?
A password on the menu would only prevent people from running the Platform. It wouldn't stop anyone from seeing the files on the drive. To lock the whole drive you either need something like TrueCrypt (which requires administrator privileges to install) or a drive that supports hardware encryption.

Having a long list of apps to
Having a long list of apps to scroll through can be a bit of a hassle. Any chance of making at least one level of grouping? That is, of being able to make a folder named, for example, "Network" in the app list, and then moving the portable apps that I think fit that grouping from the main list into that folder? And then being able to expand or close that folder as needed?
It would make the app list a LOT cleaner and make it MUCH easier to find what I'm looking for quickly. Since I don't know how you have your app menu software written, though, I don't know how much of a headache this would be to implement.
