Missing Folders

dallen - March 17, 2009 - 7:29am

I know that there has been some discussion regarding older versions of Toucan not copying empty directories; however, I am using version 2.0.7 and I am experiencing this problem. When I tried to perform a "Backup" of my My Documents folder using Toucan I end up with a zipped file. Upon decompressing the zipped file and selecting the properties of all of the contents and comparing the file and folder count to the original I found that there are the exact same number of files; however, there is a difference in the number of folders. Specifically, there are four less folders in the backup than the original. So, I analyzed the two and discovered that the four missing folders are empty directories.

One may ask, "Why have empty directories?" I would respond, "Why is a program designed to backup directories not backing up directories exactly?"

I am new to using this software so any guidance will be greatly appreciated.

Confirmed

Tested and confirmed that 2.0.7 does not backup empty directories.

The job window shows the empty directory but the filelist does not include it.

There

is, surprisingly a reason for this Smiling

I fixed this bug in 2.0.5/2.0.6 and I thought all was well, however it turns out that when you add a folder name to the list file it backs up all of the subfiles, which then breaks any rules you might have exlcuding certain files. I am looking into the best way of fixing this at the moment, I think I can fix it by making it an exclusion list rather than an inclusion list and flipping everything around, but I am not yet sure.

OK

I don't think that this issue is earth-shattering, but it should get addressed somehow.

Funny how some things just won't stay fixed!

Yes

I figured not having empty folders was a better deal than not being able to exclude files, at least for now!
