Make any App portable?

sl23 - April 6, 2009 - 7:32am

I looked at the post for making a portable app, but does that include being able to turn any app into a portable app just by using a launcher?

While looking through the forums I found an excellent program called format factory launcher. It seemed to take any old program an turned it into a PortableApp.

My point is, this is a normal program which is installed in the normal way, yet there is a portable launcher that turns it into a PortableApp. Brilliant, but can it be done with any program, or only certain ones? I am quite an ameteur but would like to get into programming so wondered if this would be a good place to start? It's an interesting and practical topic that would keep my interest.

Thanks

Scott

Yes, it can be done for any program.
There's a catch though: no guide works for any program.

Also, I think the program you were talking on the first post was Package Factory. Unfortunately, it is U3 compliant only and since U3 is a dying platform, I don't see much interest into using it. It also doesn't make an application portable in itself, as it won't redirect the registry writes to the thumbdrive, unlike the PortableApps.com launchers.
