New version is available

A new version for the portable Version is online.

@ottosykora

Read the infos on my page or download the complete version.

Copy all superantispyware on your USB-Stick and start batch

still can not see the 100% portable

it works sure, but this will work this way anyway without the bat (cmd) file. It produces its folders and file in appdata, well you might copy them but is this then portable?

I tried to make all as you suggest, but it will anyway place an autostarting service on the PC, it places different things around, leaving them inplace after shut down.

So where is the portability of it?

New version

There has been a new version just realeased (as reviewed by Lifehacker) that is a .com file. The file downloads as a different file name each time to prevent malware from blocking it. I've got it on my thumb drive and it works well. I was wondering if anyone knows of a 'hack' to get the application to show up on the portableapps menu.

Anyone?

Issue

I've downloaded this three times, and it keeps telling me it is not a valid Win32 application. Could Sophos be blocking it? (I know this isn't the best place to ask this, just popped into my mind.)

Usually when you get a message like that, it means the .exe is corrupt. Did you try renaming the .com file to .bat?

No

No, I didn't. .com files aren't the same as .bat, are they? (Reveals pitiful ignorance.)

I am not my signature.

nope. bat files are

nope. bat files are basically scripts. COM files are compiled from C++ or some language like that.

Has anyone done any testing

Has anyone done any testing of this? If so, do you think it is possible to develop into a PAF version?

Yes it's possible to do a PortableApps.com Launcher with this. Only problem is that I'm too lazy to do it, and the demand for it is less than 0.0001 % of the site Sticking out tongue

what would a PAF version give

what would a PAF version give to this app?

Ease of use

Creating this in a .paf version makes the application show up in the portable app menu. There are other benefits but that's the major one.

meh, make a folder in

meh, make a folder in portableapps\ called superantispywareportable and drop the executable in there. Refresh the menu. Bask in your glory

Hmm

Is this really all thats required? I still don't see it... how would I make it appear under say the security category?

Cheers

to change / set a program's catagory

how would I make it appear under say the security category?

You should be able to right click on a program (in the PortableApps menu),
and change / set that program's category (should be the 5th option from the top of the pop-up menu)

.

Is this really all thats required? I still don't see it...

have you looked in the "Others" category? If it is not there, double check that you have got the folder set up properly.

.

eg: for me, I have a couple of non-PA format programs (on a USB Memory Stick) inside the PA program folder

X:\PortableApps

and the PortableApps menu can see them fine

.

to add Superantispyware portable I'd make a new folder inside X:\PortableApps

X:\PortableApps\superantispywareportable

and copy the EXE file into there.

Note: the folder name isn't that important, X:\PortableApps\SuperASP would work just as well. However, I think it is important to *not* use spaces in the folder name.

If you have tried this and you can't see the program icon in the PA menu, check to see if you have put a space in the folder name. (not sure if this really is a problem, but all the PA program folder names avoid using spaces so .... ?)

good luck Smiling

(and hopefully someone will be along shortly to correct anything I've said that is wrong Sticking out tongue
