Debray6379 - May 4, 2009 - 4:34am

Hi all
I'm new to portable apps and MPlayer and was wondering if someone could tell me in easy steps how to add codecs to MPlayer please

specifically I wold like to be able to play .3gp video with .amr audio as that is what my Phone records video in

**note** MPlayer plays the .3gp video just has no audio

thanks for a great idea and your help

VLC

Sorry, I haven't got a clue, but VLC played a video I took with my phone. Not sure if the audio is .amr though, my Nokia was big on AMR but this video was taken with my Motorola, and it's .3g2. Close but maybe no cigar, I don't know, but VLC plays it fine.

MPlayer's on its way out; search the forums for SMPlayer. It's MPlayer with a better frontend which rivals VLC in GUI features. Much more user-friendly.

VLC unfortunately has no .amr support

Well Things could have change it's been a good 12 months since I used VLC but back then I do remember it had no support for .amr narrow or wide Sad but I have been told that it is possible to compile your own version with it.

thanks for the reply
***EDIT***
I just found this MPlayer/SMPlayer http://mulder.dummwiedeutsch.de/home/?page=projects Maybe With permissions granted it could be made into a portable app?
and it plays .3gp with .amr!!! {thanks to Mulder}

Mplayer Portable right here

Mplayer Portable right here (note this is the mpui front end for mplayer)

Two options

I have a Nokia Communicator which uses the same video format, so I know what works.

1.
Search this site for SMPlayer portable - it will play your files.
If you want the latest version smplayer-portable-0.6.7, then you will have to search for the home web site.

2.
Download the latest Mplayer.exe and use it to replace the version in the mplayer portable package from this site. You can compress the file with appcompactor. This option will give you a smaller package, but the mplayer package from this site is very outdated and primitive.

SMPlayer {Dats Some Gooood Mooviieess}

I now have SMPlayer Portable with optional codecs installed thanks for all the great help
