Portable apps Auto Startup

mikelevy - June 20, 2009 - 12:14pm

Previously when I connected my memory stick to the USB socket on any PC, the Portable Apps Menu immediately appeared on the screen. Now Portable Apps doesn't start itself. Any suggestions please? - Mike

Auto Insert Notification

Auto Insert Notification may be messed up. Microsoft makes a small app which will detect and repair autorun issues that should fix it for you (it worked for me) but I haven't got a link. Let's see... not really finding anything useful with a Google search, maybe somebody else has it. I didn't save it, but wish I had it on my flash drive.

This topic at CDFreaks.com has some information, more for optical drives, but could be used for flash drives as well.

You're saying it just

You're saying it just automatically started the PAM, which means autorun... Check in the root of the drive for a hidden file named autorun.inf. If it is there, look for the following line:

Open=StartPortableApps.exe

If it is there, I can't help you any further. If not, add that line, but be sure that it is below the line:

[Autorun]

Which should be the first line anyway. If you want the PortableApps logo as your drive icon, add the following line below that:

Icon=StartPortableApps.exe, 0

Now, if you don't have autorun.inf at all, create a new text file and name it that, and put the following into it

[Autorun]
Open=StartPortableApps.exe
Icon=StartPortableApps.exe, 0

Quamquam omniam nescio, nec nihil scio.
