[How-To] Remove the stupid edit margin in Notepad++

While some may find this feature useful, I find it annoying and infuriating, since I only use Notepad++ for basic text editing. It's a great program for that, but that stupid edit margin that showed up a few versions back is a distraction. And nobody here has been able to tell me how to disable it.

Well, I finally figured it out, and I'm quite proud of myself for it. So here it is for anyone else bothered by it.

Plugins > ChangeMarkers > Disable Plugin

It's that easy. Also, if you find this feature useful, go into that submenu; there are other options you can set. See About for more info.

Hope this helps!

Well,

NathanJ79And nobody here has been able to tell me how to disable it.

am I nobody? Eye-wink
See here. That was the "How-To" for Notepad ++ prior 5.4.1. And since 5.4.1 it's a plugin "ChangeMarkers".

Sorry, then

Bart.SSettings -> Preference... -> Edit Components -> "Display line change state margin"

Sorry, then. But that option does not exist in my copy. I may have seen your post there, where you linked; in fact I think I did, but since the option wasn't there, I ignored it. I should have spoke up again, perhaps.

And the bit about it being a plugin in newer versions wasn't mentioned in that topic; I must have been using 5.4.1 then? I was using 5.4.3 earlier, but just upgraded to 5.4.5 this morning.

In any case, problem solved.

Never mind,

that option doesn't exist anymore (since 5.4.1), but it was there. Trust me Smiling

Maybe, the Notepad++ changelog says:
Notepad++ v5.4.1 new features and fixed bugs (from v5.4) :
1. Add ChangeMarkers plugin in installer.

I don't know what version was the current one when I wrote my reply.

Well, problem solved and we have now a nice and up-to-date "How-To".
